Consulting Psychologists Press collected data (1996? 97?) on political party affiliation as a part of developing the Form M of the MBTI. The results generally suggest that SJs are likely to affiliate with the two traditional parties (Democrat or Republican) but not report Independent. NTPs, however, tend to be over represented amongst Independents. INTJs tend largely to be Republican. And, apparently in constrast to the data presented here, INFJ was over represented amongst Democratic affiliation.
These MBTI results make sense in that SJs are traditionalists and NTPs seek autonomy.
A problem, however, is with the notion of "party affiliation". I've not been able to get info from CPP as to how they measured that variable and research has shown that the wording of the questions about party affiliation can impact significant how people respond in terms of political identity (but moreso in the conservative-liberal).
As for the little valid research I have seen on this topic, the S-N dichotomy is the only consistent indicator of conservative-liberal self identification.
