John McCain, you treasonous bastard, I challenge you or any of your traitorous cohorts...

At this time I really don't believe McCain will be the Republican candidate.....even if the GOP, media, or GW push him. Admittedly not being that politically aware back then, I recognized him as a loose cannon before the 2000 election.

Don't hold back Jim, tell us how you really feel.
I assume this means you'll fight any attempt to censor FR. My PayPal account is at the ready to donate to a FRee speech defense fund in case lawyers are needed.

Amen to a testimony to free speech. Perhaps a response from Jim has not been made because he was suspended by the moderators. [Just kidding]
I did not find a response from JR as to the timing and passion of his post. But, having been here just over a year now I am embolden to put my two cents in. There are rumblings around DC about putting a gag on blogs for a period of 30-60 days, or so, before elections. This self serving legislation would help protect incumbents from a last minute attack and the possibility they might lose their cushy jobs.
Since Free Republic is founded on freedom of speech, I suspect the very thought of curtailing it prior to an election put JR over the top. [As it should with every one who claims to be a "Freeper"].
The Kerry campaign showed how biased the main stream media is. Were it not for Free Republic and the Swift Boat Vets, we might now be suffering under the presidency of John Kerry. Remember and be alarmed. And remember also that freedom is not free.
If Jim Robinson gave a different reason or I am off base, I apologize to JR and to all. But, this effort to gag blogs is indeed a threat and we all need to fight it.
God bless America and all the military who put their lives on the line to defend our free speech!

And if I may add~~~~~~~~
Abraham Lincoln, 27 January 1838:
"At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years. At what point, then, is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide. "

The biggest threat to this nation comes from within, not externally, as in terrorism.
It's people like McCain, and all those who vote for him, who would hasten America's demise.

McCain is a mole, who's only currency is the fact that he let himself be captured by the enemy...twice.

"Looking forward to McCains reply."
He won't reply. He's senior senator
in our state. He doesn't reply to anything
asked by the common people, much less his
constituents.

McCain may not be the perfect Senator, but he isn't Satan or Hillary.Pretty darn close if you ask me.

You have a tendency toward hyperbole. If he runs, I'm voting for him--and there's no one more "American" than me.

Someone help me out here.
"....subjecting Internet political speech to campaign-finance regulations..."Are donations made by Free Republic to specific campaigns or specific candidates? IOW, would Free Republic (as opposed to Jim Robinson, private citizen) make a donation to Candidate XYZ in the next Presidential election on behalf of all Freepers?
If not, then why could we be regulated as part of CFR:? Is they answer simply nothing more than because they say it is? In an earllier time I would blow this off and say the courts would never uphold this. Of course, that was before CFR.

Check that: I'm willing to admit there may be a few, but not many.

Mccain won't sell the USA down the river like the Clintons. McCain does know about the military and does respect the men and women serving (unlike the Clintons).
Don't kid yourself. He's a politician first, a veteran after that.

Just in case you didn't get pinged to this ...
Feingold was on Daily Show last night. "I think all campaigns should be publicly financed," Feingold said (direct quote).
Jon Stewart responded with some gibberish that I didn't hear all of it, but something about the government declaring that "money can't be tied to free speech."
If the election comes down to McCain and Hillary, a strong third party candidate would stand a real chance in '08.

You and I know the history of McCain... he is insidious. I think I will start a thread tonight with links, for those who are too young to know of his antics.
Let us know what we can organize... and we'll git er done.
