I agree with you that Dubya vs MSM, it's Dubya my a mile!
That being said, I don't think he would have got this reaction in Brooklyn, NY. Then again, they wouldn't try it in Brooklyn NY (nor should they).
I think people who accept the media POV aren't hostile to the media at all.

Yes, you're right about Brooklyn or similar locations. However, in a hostile situation, the President is still pretty amazing. I've seen him disarm some of the most hostile constituents...when he is in the right mood of course.
That said, there are very few people who accept the media POV. Lefties think that they are all capitalist tools. Independents think all politicians and newsies should take a hike...and conservatives, well, we're just right.
So technically, you are correct. People who accept the media POV aren't hostile to the media. They are IN the media.

The President won well over 80% of the congressional districts in this country . . . he could visit any state, any time and still get a rousing reception. [On Monday, he visited CLEVELAND and got standing ovation after standing ovation -- and Cleveland is just as much of a Democrat stronghold as NYCity!]
BTW: I would reserve the term "DUMB" for those who actually believe media manufactured polls. If the term applies to you, then I encourage you to read the following:

BUSH, CHENEY APPROVAL NUMBERS REMAIN STRONG AMONG REPUBLICANS [And guess what, Repubican/Republican-leaning Independents comprise at least 51% of the voting public!]

re: polls
I have no doubt that the american public's approval rating of he president these days is legitimately between 35% and 40%.
