Why is anyone surprised? The Republic as we knew it ceased to exist sometime in the last 40 years. We now have a federal court system that has declared sodomy a civil right, but thinks that limits on the rights of political speech are A-OK.

Old Marxist saying -- "The worse, the better." That is, it takes anguish to motivate people for revolution.

That explains why democrats continually try to wreck the economy and destroy the middle class through subversive cultural forces, in hopes that people will revolt against capitalism.
