I'm reminded of something General De Gaulle said. According to him there are three ways to go to Hell:

  1. Gambling
  2. Women
  3. Believing experts

He said gambling was the quickest way, women was the most pleasureable and believing experts was the most certain.

Regards, Ivan

I guess I will keep eating fish until we get a study telling us it's bad for us. At least it's low calorie.

Any word on the possible bad effects of too much Omega 6 and 9? This study is incomplete if it ignores that interrelationship.

Snake oil is still good, right?

(I've been sold a lot of that over the years.)

However, industrial fishing has depleted the world's fish stocks by some 90% since 1950, and rising fish prices reduce affordability particularly for people with low incomes."

Anyone see what this "study" is really about?

BTW, fish oil DOES lower cholesterol - proven. If they are correct in saying that lower cholesterol is better, then it follows that fish oil is benificial.

This smells like more agenda driven garbage from the "Save the Krill" leftists.

I've beend reading lately about some studies where the setup ended up messing it up.

For instance, there was a double blind study on the benefits of calcium for older women. The women were told to maintain their regular diets, etc. Some got calcium supplements, some got placebo.

No significant improvements were found. Actually, there were minor improvements.

But they found out after the study was done that many(more than half) of the women who were in the control group were taking, as part of their normal diet and regimen, some supplemental calcium.

Population statistics would seem to contradict these conclusions about fish oil, but maybe those folks who eat alot of fish live longer because they DON'T eat Big Macs!

So who knows? They'll figure it out.

Right on, my British friend.

For what it's worth, I started taking marine oil capsules (Rescue brand)last year, every day. My cholesterol went from 265 down to 178. My doctor is stunned, he was going to put me on medication prior to that. Also,my ratio of good vs bad cholesterol is such that I am actually in reversal, which means my arteries are being cleaned out.

Expensive, but worth it.

Didn't even bother to study mental health, it's a fact Omega-3s are better for your brain than Omega-6. Hence why they say fish is brain food.

What a wonderful quote! I never heard it before -- can't think why it's not more widely known (unless the experts are suppressing it?).

The researchers concluded that it is actually unclear whether omega 3's reduce or increase total death rates

Isn't the total death rate 100%? If Omega 3s increase that, hey, pass me the bacon and put some butter on the side.

/sarcasm, I think.

Nice quote from DeGaulle. As a wit, he was not in Churchill's league, but he was not bad. I also like the one about it being impossible to govern a country that makes 350 kinds of cheese. I may have the number 350 wrong, but I think of the quote every time the French either riot or go on strike.
