Thanks for the post and the ping. Another great read from Colonel North. He got the info from the "horse's mouth" so to speak. As well as being a patriot and hero, he's a more than capable journalist.

The University at Heidelberg is one of the top in Germany. There was a mutual understanding between the allies and Germans in WWII that we would not bomb Heidelberg if the Germans did not bomb Oxford. Therefore, the city was untouched in the war and an attractive city on the Neckar river with the old (partially destroyed castle-not in WWII) on top of the hill.

Ollie make some excellent points. These students don't have a clue about what totalitarian socialism (NAZI) and communism (former DDR) did to their country. Many East Germans were virtually imprisoned in their country for decades and hundreds killed, wounded or imprisoned for trying to escape to West Germany. Of course out of the total population of students you can expect some to be on the fringes. I remember meeting communists when I was a student at UGA in the 60s.
