When did BSE become a virus? I understood it to be a destructive form of protein called a prion that cannot be destroyed, even if burned or buried in earth for many years. Also, BSE can reside undetected for many years in the body before symptoms develop and only then diagnosed after autopsy (sponge like holes in throughout the brain).

Am I mistaken?

I think you misread post 22. She didn't say BSE was a virus.
