WASHINGTON - The cherry blossoms around the Tidal Basin will be getting plenty of attention this week, especially if the weather gets warmer.
The blossoms are supposed to hit peak bloom Monday, and the National Park Service's chief horticulturist said it should last for about 10 to 14 days.
The National Cherry Blossom Festival started Saturday, and is expected to bring about one million people to the city. The festival runs through April 9.
This marks the 94th anniversary of Japan's gift of the trees to Washington
Early this year! They are so pretty.
I forgot about them! Ah, the memories....
Fannie Fox, The Tidal Basin Bombshell.
She was the "Tidal Basin Bombshell". Another Arkansas romance. LOL
I'm with you on GMU. What a great game!
We've had an exceptionally mild winter. Global warming, you know....
Anyone who's ever taken a course at GMU is polishing up his window decal and digging out a coffee mug or two this week. Lots of folks in northern Virginia are/have been enrolled in graduate school at GMU. Did you happen to hear when the next game is in Indianapolis?
Next Saturday in Indy, vs. Villanova or Florida.
I think the Jefferson Memorial is so beautiful. I will never forget standing there.
I wonder how many think of the remarkable men who built this country? Most Freepers do, I am sure. The more I read history, the more I see how fortunate we were to have so many great men leading the country and creating a Republic, a free Republic.
I imagine Gibbons Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire influenced them to some extent, since the volumes began to come out during the Revolutionary War.
When I first visited DC in the 60's, the blossoms always peaked around the 6th or 7th of April. Now, I am told it is usually the end of March. Global warming?
Thanks!
Agreed, a truly magnificent memorial.
Spring time in DC...can we expect John McCain and Lindsey Graham to be spotted in the park strolling hand in hand?
I think the Jefferson Memorial is so beautiful. I will never forget standing there. I wonder how many think of the remarkable men who built this country? How 'bout the remarkable woman who brought the Cherry Trees to the Tidal Basin?

Lovely, thank you.
