Then neither should you be concerned with the parents feelings or whether they've suffered enough already. Justice isn't about feelings, as you say.

Prosecting these ignorant parents will/should deter other parents from allowing their children to go to all night drug parties.

This assuming of course they actually broke a Washington state law. As I suspect they have, as it is a liberal nanny state.

I'll get flamed for this, but all this stuff about why are 14 year-old girls partying at 4 a.m. is beside the point. People get murdered in their own homes, in their offices, in church, and at malls, in broad daylight. True, these rave parties are not a good idea, but that's not why there were six people murdered. Six people were murdered because some guy snapped, for reasons we don't know. Blaming this on Seattle's liberal social environment is as silly as blaming it on guns.

We do not typically have a high murder rate here. In 2002, Seattle had the 7th lowest murder rate for large American cities. The same year, 6 of the 10 states with the highest per-capita murder rate were in the South: Louisiana, Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Alabama. 7 of the 10 cities with the lowest per capita murder rate are considered liberal: Honolulu, San Jose, Austin, San Diego, San Jose, Portland (OR), New York, and San Francisco. So, with all due respect, all this stuff blaming these murders on Seattle's liberalism don't hold up.

I disgree with assumptions that the parents were negligent. I am female and didn't have a curfew at age 15. The worse that ever happened was that I and a few of my friends were caught toilet papering a fellow band member's house. It all depends on the maturity of the kid and the trust of their parents.

I don't see what law the parents broke. The party may have involved some broken laws for the people that were there... how did that work out? Those laws were effective at... what again?

So if a brutally killed child doesn't get their attention, a little jail time will, huh? I just don't think so. I don't think you can deter stupidity. People that are stupid aren't... follow me here... thinking.

There isn't a statewide curfew law for teenagers. Do you think this would be a good idea? State enforced curfew?

How would this be enforced? I don't think that's going to work out the way you might think. Cops can come and arrest the parents of misbehaving kids... sounds like a wonderful weapon for an out of control teenager. He can have his parents arrested any time he wants.

Kyle and Kelley Moore said they allowed their 14-year-old daughter, Melissa, to go to raves as long she came home by her 3 a.m. curfew.

You're right, it's just that simple - if a teen acts really mature then rapists will decide not to rape them.

I wasn't sure if they broke any laws either. Just common sense. I don't know if Washington has child negligence laws where this would violtate them.

The jail time wouldn't be meant for them, it'd be to send a signal to other parents not to allow your teenagers to do overnights at a drug party. These parents are screwed for life. I doubt one can forget something like this. I'd dwell on it constantly if it was my daughter.

I don't see this as huge enforcement problem for police if you set a sufficently late time. Fine the parents for violations. Money talks.

With regard to kids getting parents in trouble with the law, I suspect most every girl these girls age know that all they have to do is march into their school nurses office and allege abuse of some sort and they can get their parents in a heap of trouble. Child Protective Services is above the law in ways the cops can only dream about.

The parent bashing IS justified in this case, and probably in your parents case as well. I had a similar youth to yours, but I am honest enough to admit that my parents were probably stupid as hell for letting me do what I did.

I sometimes have problems dealing with my older kids, because I "feel" bad restricting them more than my parents did me, but I "know" thats the right way to be.

I'm a 50s & 60s rock 'n roller; haven't listened to anything since before the disco crap appeared in the 70s. Everything since, is "just noise looking for a category", IMO.
