Corzine the Canary

Jon Corzine, New Jersey's new Governor, isn't the first politician not to follow through on a campaign promise. But rarely is such dishonesty later presented as a virtue. The question for voters to contemplate is whether this is also an indication of what to expect if Democrats gain control of Congress in November.
Mr. Corzine won the Trenton statehouse last year by running as a tax cutter who'd raise property tax rebates by 40% over four years. "I'm not considering raising taxes. It's not on my agenda. We have a very high-rate tax structure. I'm not considering it," the then-U.S. Senator had vowed in October.
Well, last week Governor Corzine removed the Steve Forbes mask and submitted a record $30.9 billion budget that increases state spending by 9% and includes $1.5 billion in new levies. He wants to raise the already high state sales tax by 16% and extend it to services; hike taxes on cigarettes, alcohol and expensive cars; and create a new state water tax. And just so Garden State entrepreneurs don't feel left out, his budget would impose a corporate tax surcharge and a commercial property transfer tax. "There are no immediate plans," joked one local paper, "to tax the air we breathe--not this year, at least."
[snip]
And now Democrats on Capitol Hill are promising they'll also cut taxes if they're elected to run Congress next year. Republicans have certainly given Democrats an opening by their failure to govern. But voters who might otherwise choose Democrats for a change might think twice if they conclude that Mr. Corzine is the canary in the coal mine of real Democratic tax intentions.

Corzine has all his money offshore and in tax shelters. What does he care if the "little people" have to pay more tax. They are merely pawns to him.
In a less gentle time, his actions would have merited a public defenstration.

Hmmm, let's see, a lying, liberal 'Rat scumbag. That's an automatic ticket to office and re-election in NJ. Sounds like Corzlime is doing the right thing being that he's a 'Rat. It goes with the territory, being a 'Rat and all, reverting to type, just get elected and hold power, the stupid sheeple will keep voting for you while you rob them blind.

Meanwhile, Corzine's promises to stop the corruption in N.J. have faded in the night. The news outlets in the state who endorsed Corzine have an obligation in fact to hold his feet to the fire on all his campaign promises as it goes directly to their "credibility". "Courageous" indeed.
The N.J. Republicans who aren't democrats in RINO clothing are busy fighting each other. Inept idiots.

I actually argued with some knucklehead on this very conservative forum about Corzine's property tax promises.
I don't remember the knucklehead's name, but he or she was actually buying Corzine's scam and planning on voting for him for the promised tax reduction.
Dear long-lost knucklehead from a few months ago - I hereby revoke your right to ever vote again for anybody. This decree is morally, legally, financially, and symbolically binding.
(If he'll believe Corzine's ridiculous proclamations, we can only hope he'll believe mine.)

A notable previous example, Bill Clinton promising the voters of Arkansas in 1988 that if they reelected him governor he would not run for President in 1992. When he reneged he said it was because that is what the voters wanted him to do. Americans should have grabbed a clue then but many didn't even though the Arkansans did all they could to warn us.

And what the heck is a water tax -- and why would the STATE be involved in that?
Raise a tax 16 percent? How is he explaining that that isn't raising taxes?

New Jersey voters are the dumbest in the nation. They will never learn the lesson that Democrats=MOre Taxes. NJ does not have free elections. That state is run by the Unions/Mafia and the vote is controlled by them.
Things will change only when they are the only ones left to pay the taxes because everyone else has left. Unlike Communist countries they can't control the borders, build walls, or issue passports. The same is true of Chicago, Detroit, and a few other blue enclaves.

THAT is true!
I must admit, I got very excited to see that my house value tripled since we moved in about 6 years ago.
Then I looked around to consider moving.
We can't even move with a tripled home value without losing money.
So we sit.

Sales tax going from 6% to 7%. Tax on water......we have a well so I'm not sure how the city water bills are calculated. Also wants a big tax on hospital beds. Guess he thinks the insurance companies won't mind?
We already have a real estate transfer tax amount to thousands of dollars when you move.
Our local rag of a newspaper thinks Corzine is being so courageous.

Oh, wonderful: the luxury BOAT thing worked so well before, didn't it? In our area of south jersey 3 boat-works closed down during that tax.
It was near the holidays so the charities I worked with had over 40 families to help.
Two of the boat-works have since reopened, but this could hurt them big time.
