It's hard to imagine someone worse than Vincente Fox.

He accomplished nothing during his tenure, save flood our country with millions of illegal aliens and harbor hundreds of fugitives from American justice.

Pemex is still a state-owned oil monopoly used for political patronage, now it'll just be used by a socialist instead of a faux-capitalist.

I don't see what the big deal is.

Thanks, I put a lot into that post. Of course, no one noticed.

If there is no bill this year (and it is looking increasingly as if there will not be), immigration reform will be dead for at least another three years.

That's better than passing the Specter-Kennedy-McCain monstrosity. No bill is better than a very very bad bill.

Hopefully, this will increase the resolve of the Minutemen on the border and prompt them to take more agressive action against illegals.

How do we deport 11-12 million illegal aliens?

Start by enforcing the law. Whenever anyone is arrested for a crime, before even a trial, if it is determined that they are here illegally, deport them immediately. Just enforce the present law.

If they wish to protest and go to trial for the crime they were arrested for, set up a program where once they are back in their home country they can go to an American Embassy and appear there, and via remote Internet teleconference, have a full USA trial before a US judge. If acquitted, then they would have the opportunity to apply for a visa to enter the US and start at the back of the line.

Here's the question. What should be done from here on out? We aren't going to deport 12 million people. It's just not going to happen. (unless I was dictator). What happens now? The border has been screwed up for 25 years. Do we start over and give everyone here a gimme? I'm all for troops along the border, but that includes canada, a fence will be breached someway or another, but troops every 100 feet will help. So, what do we do going forward?

Seal the border. Build a modern fence system. Vigorously enforce the laws on the books against hiring illegal aliens.

At that point, many will deport themselves.

Then, yes, use the resources of the federal, state and local governments to begin to deport those who have stolen their way into our country.

What the hell are you talking about? Doing something about it was one of his campaign issues in 2000.

Sure Bush has always wanted to do something about it. A guest worker program. Problem is, guest worker is to border control as aviation fuel is to firefighting.

I've got my hand out here, hoping that everybody can just take a deep breath. Are you really going to slap it away?

What the hell are you talking about? Hand out? Are you under the impression that we need you to mediate something?

Frankly, since I know you'll be supporting Hillary in 2008, I'm not much interested in anything you have to say.

You won't find me defending Clinton in any case

Oh my mistake ... I misread your post then

Fact is, Peach, Bill Clinton's administration did a better job of enforcing the laws against hiring illegal aliens.

The 'immigrants' have taken over most of the GOOD jobs around here that historically employed our local high school graduates and dropouts and gave them decent incomes.

What "good jobs"? First of all, a high school graduate isn't going to get what one would consider a "good job" without a good college education.

Secondly, I have no sympathy for dropouts, and neither do employers of good paying jobs. Anyone who does, is a damned liberal, who thinks everything should be fair in life.

What a stupid comment.

The only people who will 'thrive' in this environment are welfare bureaucrats and cheap labor businessmen. Or haven't you noticed how public services are in collapse in California under the impact of illegals ?

I know I told you I was going to hang in there and I know most people around here could give a hoot, but this place sucks anymore.

"Sucks" depends on your expectations. Maybe you set them too high.

Lighten up a bit - have fun. Play mind games with posters. Read threads for what they are worth without feeling compelled to participate.

I made a quantum leap in happiness when I decided to view the US Senate (as well as the rest of the government) as a circus. FR is a sideshow to that.

Sure, it's all amenable to serious analysis and observation - and it's worthy of that. But the outcome is beyond your control, so you might as well use your head and have some fun!

And I have no sympathy for foreigners who broke the law to get into our country, or the "Americans" who abet them by illegally hiring them.

Well, you can't say that GWB hasn't done anything at all. It's not like there were only two letters. Or just one letter.

First chuckle I've had on this thread, thanks. :-)

I have a hard time with the enforcement thing, we talk the talk. And it doesn't work, so we make more laws. We have plenty of laws to take care of this problem, and they've been in effect for decades. Trouble is, those laws haven't been enforced for 30 years. Yet, this is Bush's fault. Just like 9-11 was his fault.

It's not MY logic; it's the Yahoo Photo pages description.

If you can't figure that out by yourself, you're pretty dense.

Well if you think that you can do a better job of turning around a country that had a one party corrupt socialist rule for the last 70 years, do it.

Easy to criticize from behind a computer isn't. It ain't easy when you are the President of the United States and dealing with a country you share a 2,000 mile border with.
