What a freak this guy is. He's been in his ivory tower way too long.

Rude people who talk loudly on their cell phones should always be told that they are rude, whether they are in an airplane at 30,000 feet or in a restaurant. People who let their phones ring loudly and disrupt others are boors. I have always wanted to see someone yank the phone from their hand, and throw it onto the floor and stomp it into a million pieces.

I agree 100%. The cellphones in the American Airlines Admiral's Clubs are so distracting with people screaming into them like they are talking through a can with string attached to another can. Then, while we are seated, the endless cellphone calls (usually people just killing time LOUDLY).

Once airborn, I would like quiet to work or sleep. Most people show little consideration on their cellphones, so we cannot rely on expectations of good behavior.

I will change airlines to whatever airline bans cellphones in the air.

I laugh everytime I read one of these whinning pieces about cell phones in aircraft. The simply truth is, they will only work for about 5 minutes before landing or about 3 minutes after takeoff.

Next time you fly, turn your cell phone on you moron - see? No signal. Sheesh.

I'm in the air twice a week. Being able to communicate with the ground is what let Todd Beamer "roll". Being able to do my expenses and email on the plane would let me spend more time with my family. Yes, Americans are going to abuse the priviledge, but some of us can benefit from it.

Allowing cel phones on planes could lead to violence. I hope it's never permitted except perhaps via some sound proof enclosure.

I for one will be glad when all the cell phone whining ends. Cell phones are here to stay. Get used to it people.

If you have a good earphone the conversation should be no louder than with a fellow passenger. If you travel and plan to talk in a loud environment I recommend custom made earphones.

It's obvious this guy hasn't been talking to conspiracy-theorist Charlie Sheen-han. Everyone knows cellphones don't work at 30,000 feet. /sarcasm.

I practice the Flight Free Lifestyle and drive my comfortable old Lincoln where ever I need to go or choose to roam. Packed like a sardine in an aluminum cylinder filled with miscelaneous rifraff practicing no end of obnoxious habits and producing odious smells is no way to travel. And that's first class. Tourist I don't even like to think about. And don't get me started on the cacotopia of the modern airport.

I don't know about allowing cell phones, but we need to allow internet access so we can do e-mail and research as needed.

This guy has no reason to complain, as his normal posture shields his ears quite effectively.

Why is this idiot so worried about this? considering the background noise in an airplane, I wear ear plugs against the jet engine noise. Some retard on a cell phone is not going to bother me. Besides, headphones with music will drown out a caller as well.

The smoking ban on all flights came along when the science behind the problem of secondary harm from smoking became well-established.

I call BS on this statement.

In the topic of the article, I learned long ago to shut out distractions from others as needed.
Let the cell phone users jabber in the cabin. It won't disturb my sleep.

I've always been told that cellphones and wireless devices mess up the airplanes electronics. How come, all of a sudden, it's going to be OK?

Judging by the replies on this thread, the conservative principles of freedom and self-reliance are absolute unless it's inconvenient - but then it's only okay to stifle other people's freedoms.

I find grumpy babies and toddlers far more annoying than cell phones. Let's ban those from airplanes too.

What a nitwit. The smoking ban came before the first snivel about "secondhand smoke" being a "health hazard", and the computer model used to "establish" alleged harm to anyone's health has yet to be substantiated. BOGUS!

Don't get me started about noise. We live in an exceptionally noisy world. Many people don't even know what real silence or quiet is. Many don't want to know.

As an ex-musician, I'm surprised that I'm starting to hate music. It's everywhere. You can't get away from it. I ask in some "coffee bars" that they turn down or off the music. Sometimes they do it, but never low enough. I thought some places are for quiet, thinking and meditation.

If you think cell phones are problem on trains, you should ride a train in England, the problem there is worse. So much for British manners.

Then there are the train crossing horns near where I live. They are SO LOUD even at 4 AM. I don't know how anyone gets any sleep.

Then there are insane barking dogs with deaf owners.

Like I said, don't get me started. What's wrong with a little peace and quiet?

There will be outbreaks of air rage if cell phones are rampant in coach class.

I just don't get the anger over cell phones. As annoyances go, they're pretty small.
