Time for a new conservative American party as the republican party has sold citizens down the road for lucre and votes.

The Republicans started right off by not voting in the full Contract with America,

We never needed a Contract with America -- we already have one it is called The Constitution?

The only "legalized" they are going to be is permitted. The onus is going to be put on the employer to check the identity of their workers and they will be held financially responsible if the people are not legal. There is NO reason this can't be done. Visa and Mastercard check the authenticity on credit cards every second of every minute of every day, there is no reason this same technology can't be used to check the permit status (or legitimate SS#) of employees.

Bush just doesn't see them as "immigrants".

I guarantee you that Bush starts using this "migrants" bull$hit instead of "immigrants" within the next week or so.

Another silly overuse of the word "treason."

Yeah, Dubya is just another double-talking neomarxist poverty pimp.
No need to get excited and use the "T-word" until AFTER it's too late.

- and from the ' You have absolutely got to be joking ' news department. I'd have thought such a story would only be posted on April 1st.

I wouldn't call it treason

Appeasement: The policy of granting concessions to potential enemies to maintain peace.

"I actually appreciate what he's trying to do - he has called for a civil debate and doesn't want the equivalent of a national flame war, which is of course what both sides have made it into."

Both sides? My side didn't invade a sovereign nation and march 500,000 strong through their streets disrespecting their citizens and their flag. Please don't turn this into, "it's our fault we were invaded" argument. It's unreasonable to expect Americans to have a civil debate while their country is being invaded right in front of their eyes. It's also unreasonable to think those Americans wouldn't consider their President's advocacy of the invasion a treasonous act. Let's be honest if this were President Kerry we would be calling for impeachment.

"So in short, most here on FR agree with the problem. But the leadership refuses to confront it. What do we do now?"

As I said, that is the question. We could vote someone else in but who's to say they won't do the exact same thing? Revolt in the streets? That will more than likely bring upon a violent confrontation. I wouldn't mind that but I think the rules are a bit weighted in favor of our illegal, lawbreaking, non-American opponents. I have no doubt that trying to defend my country from this invasion would lead to my incarceration. What good can I do then? This whole mess stinks to high heaven.

Everyone here knows we would. Some don't want to admit it.

"What a stupid moment to announce this!!"

Stupid or arrogant. The Administration is growing more bold in showing its disdain for those Americans who oppose illegal alien invasion. They must truly believe that they will retain power no matter what and that conservatives will vote for them regardless. This calculus is fatally flawed IMO and the House will go over to the Democrats through a combination of Republicans not bothering to vote and some switching to vote for democrats to drive hope their anger. If this happens, Bush will spend his last two years under myriad investigations and Speaker Pelosi will attempt to impeach him. This will be his legacy.

I wonder if he will wander the planet like Bubba announcing how proud he is that he was impeached.

The reason why they are protesting is the House bill that would make it a felony to be here illegally or to help illegals already here.

At the same time it is alarming to see kids taking down the American flag and putting up a Mexican one at their high school.

I don't agree with extremists on either side.

piSo what happens now?"

Question of the day, my friend. Personally, I believe people can write letters and call congress-critters until they are blue in the face and it won't make a bit of difference. Republicans are scrambling like mad to fill the void that Democrats left when they moved left. True Conservatism in politics is dead.

MASSIVE WITHDRAWAL FROM THE REPUBLICAN PARTY!THAT WILL GET THERE ATTENTION... I THINK!

All the government has to do is show up at any construction site in Texas and they could round up hundreds at a time.

Unless they are legal tax paying citizens who the hell cares why they are protesting. They don't have a vote in the matter just as I don't have a vote in Vicente's government. As far as not standing with extremists on either side, why not stand with your countrymen? I served this country for 20 years in the AF and I'll be damned if I'll sit by and watch illegal invaders march in my country and piss on my flag. If you love your country you should stand with your fellow Americans and fight to send their illegal law-breaking asses home!

I'd take a guess we are problably at approxiamtely 30 million illegals in our country now. I cringe every time I hear 10 or 12 million. I left a town in CT with a population of about 75,000 where the estimated number of illegals is 30,000 or maybe more.
