Time to take on Albany, New York
NewYorkCoalition.org ^ | March 30,06 | Rus Thompson

New York Coalition is looking for candidates across
New York State to challenge the
Leadership in Albany in a Primary.

The only way to beat these life long Politicans is to run
against them in the Primary of their respective Parties.

Due to heavy gerrymandering of districts it is virtually impossible
for the opposing Party to beat them in the General Election.

We are looking for candidates brave enough to eliminate the
status-quo and change the course of this state.

New York Coalition.org needs to focus on the Leadership but are
looking for people to challenge every senator and assemblyman
across the Great State of New York.

Membership is open to all like-minded groups and individuals

Well, for one it looks like it was created in 1996. The background image is too small to fill my 1024x768 monitor so the image starts to repeat on the right-hand side. Who uses background photos on websites anymore? The font is very dated, the different colored text doesn't work, the images are cheap-looking. Ditch the counter at the bottom of the page--that is very 1990's.

My apologies if you created it. Not trying to insult you or your cause. But if you want to attract people to it, it needs to look professional.

I have no problem with constructive criticism..
Just you are the first one to say they didn't like it.

Maybe others like it ok. Just my opinion, but no matter what I think of the organization, a website like that tells me it is being run out of some guy's basement (even if it is, it shouldn't look like it).

That's a little easier on the eyes. One other thing, try to limit the amount of information on the homepage so that all of it fits on the typical screen without having to scroll for miles to get to the end.

However, don't feel obligated to change the site just because of me. These are just my personal opinions on what makes an attractive and useful website. I am not a professional in this area--just someone who played around with website design back in the mid-90's, when all the sites looked similar to your original one.

In any case, I wish you luck with your endeavor.

I've been wondering if it's possible to have a truly fair way to redraw districts to prevent gerrymandering -- or at least to reduce it to a minimum. I think the fairest way to redistrict would be to have a computer generate 5 maps with 2 equal criteria:

1) Minimize the surface area of all districts.
2) Minimize the number of counties represented in each district.

The assembly could then select the map it likes best. Is there someone out there with the time and ability to generate a few of these maps for us to see?

NYS has, what, 62 counties? Make each couty a district and assign the proportionate amount of Critters by population. I have more in common with the folks in my county than I do with the ones in my district.

And while we're at it, let's go for making Upstate it's own state.

The website needs to be operational and I am open to suggestions, you saw how fast I can change it.

The main objective is to get as many people possible involved and knowing abot this effort to unseat the leadership in Albany.

These people, Bruno and Silver are driving us into the ground and there is no one out there challenging them. This give people the chance to do just that.

People don't realize how vulnerable they are in the primary, the only ones that get out to vote is their supporters and the unions and trial lawyers that support and benefit from their legislation.

Silver makes million each year from his law firm and his legislation is designed to do that. It's criminal and no one calls them on it.

Yes there is we just need someone there to sponsor legislation to do that. A few years ago there was a vote for a constitutional convention, it lost at the ballot box.

Some assemblymen are calling for it but if silver doesn't want it he will not allow it to come to the floor.

The time is now for people to step up and show some backbone and force this on Albany.

Sheldon Silver is the most powerful politican in the state, he above the rest must be defeated and we need a candidate to run against him.

That movement is picking up steam.. Something has got to be done to seperate the politics of the state.

Downstate complains about upstate and vise versa.

By "critter" I assume you mean representatives in the assembly? It's an interesting idea -- but if each county gets at least 1 representative and you assign them proportionally, then Jefferson county with 111,000 people would get one representative. My district (New York county) with around 3.5 million people would then get 30 or so at-large representatives. With 30 people representing me, it would be hard to keep any of them accountable for their individual votes.

But there are ways to divie up populous counties. I just looked at our map and it makes as little sense as the Congressional district's does.

"These people, Bruno and Silver are driving us into the ground and there is no one out there challenging them. This give people the chance to do just that. "

You have that right "Mayor". Last Sunday while driving south of Arcade for "Maple Syrup Weekend" the "Appalachia" comment came up (obvious reasons) and I put forth the comment that in NYS we do not have a representative form of government because of the gang of 3. Bruno, Silver, Pataki. Nobody disputed my opinion!

My state senator "Volker" has voted with Bruno 100% of the time. What kind of representative government is that? 3 people should not determine the direction of this state. What little else there is to control in NYS is done by the plethora of various state authorities that are not answerable to the public in any fashion.

When 3 people control all aspects of the state how can any party buck that tide?

I will visit your site and see if I can contribute in some manner other than $$ as I am still waiting for one of Hillary's 200,000 jobs after working uninterrupted for 40 years and paying taxes that were just pissed away and given to welfare slobs and government hacks.
