You may feel our government is corrupt and ineffectual, but in this instance I'm speaking of degree. This is more about the reaction of the public, not the government. Our corruption/ineffectiveness cannot in any way compare with that of almost any country you can name in Central/South America.
As to the volatility of political expression, if Hispanics had reacted in their not unusual fashion, and constituted the majority in this country, a situation like the 2000 election would have resulted in nationwide rioting and violence.
Yes, most any other country in the world IS worse off than ourselves. I'm talking about social trends. We're trending towards them instead of their trending towards us. Eradicating our national sovereignty by merging the U.S. with a third world sewer isn't going to help, and that's what the big money people have in store for us.
