WASHINGTON -- It was 25 years ago today that John Hinckley tried to kill President Reagan.
He fired the shots that struck President Ronald Reagan and three others outside a Washington D.C. hotel. The shooting came just 70 days into the Reagan presidency. It nearly killed him and permanently disabled White House Press Secretary James Brady.
The shooting was said to be an attempt by Hinckley to impress actress Jodie Foster. At his trial a year later, Hinckley was found innocent by reason of insanity. He is still in a Washington mental hospital, continuing his efforts to be allowed to take more unsupervised trips outside the hospital.
Brady and his wife became strong opponents of handguns and were a driving force behind the Brady bill that requires a waiting period and background checks for gun buyers.
I remember the barely-contained glee on the faces of the network reporters. Not only because the evil hated Republican could die but because they saw what the JFK Assassination did to careers like Dan Rather's and saw themselves cuddling up to a network anchor chair or an Emmy award.
I also remember Frank Reynolds on ABC exploding in anger when he had to retract his announcement that Brady had died.
If Hinckley's aim had been just a little bit better, the left would have made him a "hero" equal to Clinton.
As a kid, young kid, the only thing I couldn't understand and asked Daddy about was "Why didn't the guards shoot Hinckley ?"
To this day I still don't understand why he's still breating much less out on release.
Hinckley's lawyer was Gregg Craig, or Craig Gregg, who facilitated the return of Elian Gonzales to Fidel Castro.
His evil continues to permeate our society.
My six year old son wrote President Reagan a letter wishing him well following the shooting. He did get a response from the President when he returned to the White House. We still have that post card from President Reagan.
Hinckley now has unsupervised furlough's from the hospital.
"Gimmie the kid you SOB! Mr. Reno doesn`t like it when Master Castro gets upset! Castro is the God and we must all bow! You see how we treat freedom in Waco didn`t you?"
I always try to put myself in that kids situation. Can you imagine hiding in a closet with your Uncle to hide from the "monsters" and having the monsters bust the closet open and snatch you away? That kid must have had nightmares for years, if he still doesn`t. That is the Clinton/Reno legacy. Bow down to threatened victims of Castro. Elian must be a teenager by now. Let`s see how much he loves "Cubas opportunities".
My blood still boils with fury when I think of what Reno and BJ did to that little bloke!
We need to keep putting up the picture of the WACO compound burning.
Think about the type of people who would be in a democrat administration and REMEMBER the evil those two wrought.
And now Hinckley is asking for more time out...4 days a week. Well heck just let him out completely. Jodi...are you listening?

Hinkley should NEVER see the light of day!
