Kerry urges immigration reform (in Dem Radio Address)
MarketWatch ^ | April 1, 2006 | Sen. John Kerry

Posted on 04/01/2006 2:01:13 PM PST by FairOpinion

Full text of Democratic radio address:

"Good morning. I am Senator John Kerry from Massachusetts.

"This week Senate Democrats won an important victory toward comprehensive immigration reform that honors the contributions of immigrants and provides real security for America.

"The Senate Judiciary Committee approved a bi-partisan immigration bill that: 1) provides a path toward citizenship for undocumented immigrants, 2) re-unites families, and 3) strengthens border security.

"Democrats made sure that the Dream Act was included, so that young people who have spent most of their lives in the United States, who believe in our country, who have stayed out of trouble, can have a chance at a higher education. We also recognize the hard work of those who labor in our fields and we insisted on an initiative that would allow more than a million agricultural workers to earn a path toward legalization.

"We stood up to the Republicans who saw immigration reform as a chance to punish immigrants. We eliminated provisions that would criminalize immigrants and anyone who would help them. This was an important step, given the fact that the House Republican approved bill passed in December would allow the prosecution of clergy, hospital workers, charities or anyone else who would help thy neighbor. Cardinal Mahoney from California was right to take a stand against this punitive measure, and we Democrats were able to defeat it.

"Democrats were able to achieve all of this, despite attempts by Senate Republican Majority Leader Frist to cater to the narrowest interests in his party and impose a wrongheaded enforcement only bill.

"We understand what this fight is all about. We are a nation of immigrants and we are a nation that is strengthened because of immigrant contributions to our economy and communities. As someone married to an immigrant, I am reminded every day by my wife of how you can love your roots and love your heritage even as you fulfill the full measure of your love of this country and your loyalty as a United States citizen.

"Today, everyone knows our immigration system is broken -- but Democrats recognize that we can't fix it unless we do this comprehensively and do it right.

"Although this week's victory is important, we must continue to fight so that comprehensive immigration reform finally becomes the law of the land. Democrats will continue to advocate for tough and smart policies that help secure all Latino families and all Americans. With your help, we can get the job done.

"I am Senator John Kerry from Massachusetts. Thanks for listening. "

Notice the order of the plan:

1 Guest workers
2 Re-unites families
3 Border Security

When Bush talks about this it is:

1 Border Security

2 Background Check

3 A guest worker provision that requires a fine, strict adherence to rules about holding a job, and paying taxes. Violate any item and you're out.

A lot of folks on FR complain about Bush's last priority, but compare and contrast the priorities and details. The GOP's leader remains far to the right of Democrats.

Find GOP candidates in vulnerable House districts and help them as much as you can.

And this is why all who are predicting the demise of the Republican majority are wrong. While some Republicans will stay home, many democrats are as irritated as we are with the guest worker immigration proposals. But the elected Dems are all on the wrong side of the American people and most elected Republicans are on our side. Hence, many Dem moderates will vote for Republicans.

Our job this year is to point out all the illegal appeasers running for reelection. It doesn't matter which party they belong to. If they support the invasion of criminal aliens, they should be voted out.

"We stood up to the Republicans who saw immigration reform as a chance to punish immigrants."

JFK: As usual, you are obfuscating by leaving out one itsy-bitsy, teen word: ILLEGAL! What is it you do not understand about this? I want every illegal immigrant punished by law and/or by fine. Does this make me a mean person? Too bad - these people broke the laws of my country.

You are making it sound like these new 'guests' are on parole.

The very best hard working parole officer can only supervise 30 light weight offenders at best.
So to take a middle number of 20,000,000 illegals would require about 600,000 Parole Officers. Add clerical support, supervision, training, vacation relief and you are now over one million unionized government employees.

Thanks for nutt'n Dubya!

Here's what Kerry really means:

1. Guest workers - More immigrants
2. Path to Citizenship - Make sure those waving Mexican flags get registered to vote Democratic ASAP.
3. Re-unites families - Make sure that we bring the extended families of all illegals here to vote too. Especially if they can be persuaded to settle in Red states.
4. Border Security - Unionize the border patrol to make sure its as ineffective and corruption ridden as possible. Yeah, hire a few more guys to featherbed the operation. This will allow the union bosses to maximize contributions to the Democratic party.

Parole is a very typical part of harsh punishment dealt out every single day by the US criminal justice system. In this case, what you call "parole" is strictly defined and all effort towards monitoring is forced onto the rehabilitating criminal -- and most important this criminal punishment is enacted only AFTER a harsh fine is levied.

This is a very typical punishment for criminal activity forcefully decreed on a law breaker. If FR folks will just stop paying attention to the Democrats trying to undercut GOP activism and open their eyes, they will see that our President REMAINS FAR to the right of the Democratic party of JF Kerry.

The rightward most candidate is the preferred candidate. If you don't want to watch leftward most candidates proceed to brand GW Bush in 2007 with the I band put on Clinton, you must get out and work for GOP candidates in vulnerable districts. And send them money.

I do put my money where my mouth is.

Another check will go out Monday to Cong. Tancredo.

And anyone who supports this amnesty, please don't ask me to disbelieve my own eyes. I was in California for many years and saw the hugh and series tax increases (usually in the form of fees) to pay for this invasion.

Sorry, Dubya has been a major disappointment.

And if we lose the House, the fault will be his, no one else's.

Notice the order of the plan:

The only issue that I have is that despite a different order, the overall plan is the same. Everyone agrees that the system needs fixing. The only real difference is *who* reshuffles the deck furniture, and when. This indicates that conservative politicians are not performing well at putting out a unified message, with something to differentiate from the Rat plan.
