From his University site:
"My interests are ever changing but have included population and community ecology, evolutionary ecology, natural history of desert lizards, resource partitioning, reproductive tactics, foraging theory, allocation, design constraints, thermoregulation, metapopulations, historical accident and biogeography, species diversity, macrodescriptors, pseudocommunities, phylogenetic systematics, computer simulation of model systems, emergent properties of ecological systems, metapopulations, indirect interactions among populations, disturbance, succession, and landscape ecology."
Note what is included in his list: resource partitioning, allocation, succession. Pressumably all to be determined by the enlightened elite who have made sure that they are immunized from their unleashed diseases.

No, this blog entry is about the same man and the same talk.

But .. it also sounds like he's hoping the "bird flu" will do this job - especially in the USA.

are immunized from their unleashed diseases. Bingo. I didn't even want to read the link. My those are huge words, no doubt intended to intimidate the non-Doctorate by an elitist, pretty meaningless.
Sounds like old Snatch at work in high places to me.

Sounds like old Snatch at work in high places to me. The hubris of desiring the role of God always has its consequences.

Boy oh boy, this guy sure loves his metapopulations.

If that happens, 10% are going to have to deal with the biggest stink e-v-e-r. 5 billion dead bodies - ish!Assuming the rotting corpses don't touch off a different pandemic that scourges the rest of them off the planet.

After noting that the audience did not represent the general population, a questioner asked, "What kind of reception have you received as you have presented these ideas to other audiences that are not representative of us?" Pianka replied, "I speak to the converted!" And I'm sure this nut and "the converted" naturally expect that they should be amongst the lucky 10 percent.

Don't worry, they'll be held responsible for their actions.
Blind faith such as that is unreliable. They should be punished while their still alive.

The hubris of desiring the role of God always has its consequences. True, but not before dragging hordes behind them in chains to the pit. They will eventually get theirs, but at what price?
You can take my statement metaphorically for this world only or make a duality of it. Or put some other spin on it.

You may call me a tinfoil hatter but I believe there is a stone monument in Georgia that advocates exactly the same philosophy. It essentially advocates killing all but half a billion humans so that humanity can "live in tune with nature". They're also big on eugenics as well. Of course they never answer the question of who decides who lives and dies... it wouldn't surprise me that they count themselves universally among the planned survivors.

Malthus warned about the opposite, that there would be too many human beings on the planet and that we'd all starve for lack of ability to feed everyone, with the expected consequences - war, disease, etc.

is he intending on infecting himself? or is he too "elite" and necessary for the human species to continue?
No all of these wackos all think they will be one of the few left over. Not one of these people, elitist snobs that they are, plan to take one for the cause, same thing with the commies and anarchists, they all plan to be one of the commissars or rulers, idiots......they will be the first to be eaten...
To: thoughtomator
Gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.

"Oh yes they are. Greens know for instance that banning DDT has killed 500 million human beings by letting malaria run out of control, but still lionize Rachel Carson as a saint. They are against population, simply. It is a perfectly common sentiment among greens to want most of the human race to die."
There is a faction right here on FreeRepublic that seem to have bought into the Green's animal-rights babble about hunting and predator control.
Humans are the top of the food chain, anything that eats the things we would eat needs to be damn scarce.
I don't really care if someone thinks baby seals are cute, to me they are blubber balls in a fur coat, eating up all the codfish.

that's what Malthus said 200 years ago. but humans can make more food and humans do limit their reproducton Correction: some humans can make more food, and some humans limit their reproduction.
The result that we see in Europe is that the ones who limit their reproduction (the native Europeans) are replaced by those who don't (the Muslim immigrants)
