I seriously consider knowingly not doing business with people that are on HOA committees.

people that are on HOA committees.I have absolute contempt for such people. None that I've known limit their commie, busybody interference in the lives of others to just their HOA. They honestly believe that everything and everybody ought to be like they think, "or else..." they'll try to make you wish you'd done what they think.
They are pigs.
At least their commie, HOA exercise reveals their Borg mentality and tags them for easy I.D.

I seriously consider knowingly not doing business with people that are on HOA committees.
My neighbor's daughter had a live-in gangster boyfriend who terrorized our sleepy suburb. Despite being approached politely, then not-so-politely by all neighbors, the gangster escalated things dramatically.
The police were not really interested in any of this, at least until someone actually was about to get killed. After 4 months, the HOA was able to get the guy kicked out. In return, all board members were threatened with physical violence from a very nasty gang.
In the end, the board prevailed, after some very tense months.
You might want to re-think the "busybody" label. My HOA stepped up to the plate, played hardball, and defused a very dangerous situation. I will always be grateful to them.

Good point. I know I have had my run-ins with them.

HOA's really should be outlawed. When people buy a house with a HOA, they don't get to see the CC&R's until after they have already made a committment. They also don't know that in most cases, amateurs will be taking on the duties of accountants, contractors, landscape experts, swimming pool experts and everything else required to run a successful business. Most board members do not even bother to read the CC&R's themselves and allow some self-appointed expert to tell them what is and is not allowed, which is usually something on his/her own personal agenda. They waste millions of dollars every year of homeowners money, with their ignorance and bad decisions.
