I don't think the perps should be sent to prison.

Oh, no.

Prison is too good for them.

Public flogging is more like, followed by several weeks confinement in the pillory or the stocks.

Followed by another public flogging.

OK...it's just that I'm not from Arizona and don't really know if there was any political pressure placed on the courts in this case. I am unable to comment on this case one way or another.

Thanks for pinging me. Please ping me again on other things...this is just one of those articles which I don't have an opinion on.

Well, a plea bargain makes perfect sense. I mean how could the perp complete his LDS mission if he were convicted of a felony? < /sarc>

This makes me physically ill. (really)

"A felony conviction for assault will make his desire to complete his mission impossible," they wrote.

Maybe he should of thought about this before hazing that kid.

Disgusting that he should get a slap on the wrist.

As a returned Mormon missionary, may I say that I heartily agree.

I think this went far beyond what I would call "hazing". It was a violent assault with sexual implications. Crimes such as this should carry appropriately strong consequences.

My guess is this young man has not had to experience the consequences of his mistakes enough while growing up. If he had, he likely would understand better about right and wrong.

This is an assault of the most heinous kind! I don't care what party these folks are from, nor to I care what their religion is. They obviously are not practicing it, so what possible difference can it make? He should be barred from missions, and punished!

They described Bennett as an honor student and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (mormon), planning to go on a mission in September. "A felony conviction for assault will make his desire to complete his mission impossible," they wrote.

Um, no, sexually assaulting those boys made him unworthy of serving a mission, not the felony conviction.
