$500 deposit? Yikes (my debit card doesn't much like purchases over $200).

Nice intro to this thread.

Not a Texas fan but that sure is a purdy car Michael will be driving.

Michael needs a good car and some good luck! I love the guy, he's a hoot and seems really down to earth.

I really like the guy too! BUT, I think he was given the best equipment and the best crew last year at DEI and showed what he could do with it -- sadly not much. :(

Jr's ride with his PR man Mike back and forth to Martinsville...

Q: Where did you stay in Martinsville last weekend?
A: We didn't. We commuted back-and-forth from Charlotte each day via helicopter, except for Saturday when we drove because of a low cloud-cover.
Q: What did y'all drive?
A: My wife's Hyundai Santa Fe.

Q: Is it true the Santa Fe has a nickname?
A: Yeah, the Santa Sleigh.

Q: Who named it that?
A: Jimmy Spencer.

Q: What did Junior think about the Santa Sleigh?
A: He said it was like riding in a Cessna.

Q: Was that a compliment?
A: Not exactly.

[That's amazing considering all the vehicles that boy has]

Man, did y’all see my car after the Martinsville race!?  That thing was tore up!  When you’re driving a car that you’ve roughed up a little bit (or in my case on Sunday, a lot), you’re never quite sure what it’s gonna look like when you climb out.  When I finally got to look at it on the outside, I couldn’t believe all the sheet metal that was missing – on the front AND the back.  Yet, we still finished fourth! Two wrecks, a lot of pit stops, and we still walked out of there with a top-five finish!  That was pretty cool.  Even cooler was the fans in the grandstands serenading me with loud cheers of approval for my team’s effort, and I appreciate that.  It’s always nice when the people who pay your salary are satisfied with your performance. That got my week off to a good start.  I’ve had a few days to chill out with my friends. Tuesday night we hung out at my western town, Whiskey River.  That place is bad-to-the-bone, and it’s a project I’m quite proud of.  Now I’m getting ready to go to Texas. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going there. Y’all take it easy, and have a good rest-of-the-week.  Junior

As always, thanks for all the Junior stuff. BUT....

More importantly let me know again if you ever hear his car is wicked fast! ;)

I think he has a good shot at the checkered this weekend!

NASCAR outraged over 'Dateline NBC' segment

Posted: 8 hours ago

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - NASCAR said it was "outrageous" that "Dateline NBC" targeted one of its race tracks last weekend for a possible segment on anti-Muslim sentiment in the United States.

NASCAR said NBC confirmed it was sending Muslim-looking men to a race, along with a camera crew to film fans' reactions. The NBC crew was "apparently on site in Martinsville, Va., walked around and no one bothered them," NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said Wednesday.

"It is outrageous that a news organization of NBC's stature would stoop to the level of going out to create news instead of reporting news," Poston said.

"Any legitimate journalist in America should be embarrassed by this stunt. The obvious intent by NBC was to evoke reaction, and we are confident our fans won't take the bait," he said.

NASCAR is in the final year of a broadcasting agreement with NBC Sports.

"'Dateline' is looking into this story," NBC said in a statement. "We were intrigued by the results of a recent Washington Post/ABC News poll and other articles regarding increasing anti-Muslim sentiments in the United States.

"It's very early on in our newsgathering process, but be assured we will be visiting a number of locations across the country and are confident that our reporting team is pursuing this story in a fair manner," it said.

Good going, WCG I hope they cover this on the pre-race. Let's e-mail Fox and encourage that!!

As Sean would say, "It's unbelievable!"

(When, in fact, it is totally believable)

Maybe Dateline should send their muslim crew to the Masters Tournament to see if they can stir up some trouble there.

Living big in Texas

FORT WORTH, Texas - When NASCAR pushed Texas Motor Speedway to swap racing dates with Martinsville Speedway - and away from the Masters Tournament - Texas pushed back.
"The Masters is not a problem for us," speedway President Eddie Gossage said. "We don't even think about them. We like our weekend, so we didn't change. We'll do our thing, and we'll be just fine."

Texas Motor Speedway kept its place in the schedule. The speedway has become a true reflection of the state - it thinks big and it doesn't run from a fight. It will go head-to-head with the Masters for television ratings this weekend, giving sports fans a choice of speed and sparks, birdies and bogeys.

Now 10 years old, the speedway has become a popular venue on the Nextel Cup Series circuit. It wasn't always easy, but like everything else, Texas was up to the fight.

"NASCAR said NBC confirmed it was sending Muslim-looking men to a race"

I can just see the ad in the New York Times:

"Wanted: 4 Muslims needed to attend NASCAR race. All expenses paid. Must look shifty. English speaking not necessary."

NASCAR calls TV magazine 'outrageous' for tactics
http://sports.yahoo.com/nascar;_ylt=AuQUXJQkldz6nDErjjNo9A05nYcB

JENNA FRYER, AP Motorsports Writer
April 5, 2006

CHARLOTTE – American stock car racing's governing body called a network television news magazine "outrageous" on Wednesday, saying it tried to provoke anti-Muslim reactions from spectators at last week's race for a story about growing U.S. sentiment against Islam.

The National Association of Stock Car Auto Racing said the NBC network's "Dateline NBC" confirmed it was sending Muslim-looking men to a race, along with a camera crew to film fans' reactions. The NBC crew was "apparently on site in Martinsville, Virginia, walked around and no one bothered them," NASCAR spokesman Ramsey Poston said Wednesday.

NASCAR grew out of the rural southern United States and its history of modifying street automobiles outrun authorities in transporting illegal alcohol. Because of its southern origins, NASCAR has been cricitized for its fans displaying numerous flags of the Confederacy from the American Civil War in the 19th century, an emblem many associate with racism.

"Dateline NBC" also has been criticized in the past. In 1992, it aired a critical story about fuel tanks on a brand of pickup trucks, using video of the tanks exploding on impact. However, the network later apologized for using toy rockets to ignite the explosion.

Actually, I believe that's the grid for the O'Reilly 300 Busch race.
