WCG, thanks so much for the ping. Just got back from vacation today. I had seen another version of this article - thought I pinged you on it. ?? Maybe I just thought I did!

"I wrecked him at Watkins Glen one time," Earnhardt said. "He was really mad at me. He asked me, 'Did I do something to you? Did I run into you? What was that for?"

But he said Jarrett eventually turned the situation into something positive.

He talked about how to handle it the next time and said he was sorry he blew up."

The driver of the #88 car is nothing but class. As is Mark Martin. As 'was' Rusty Wallace. Ricky Craven, Ken Schrader, long list.....and when they leave (let me wipe the eyes for a minute)...they leave a big hole...IMHO.

After the "old guys" you have drivers like Dale Jr, Tony Stewart, Greg Biffle, Jeff Gordon, etc.,....I classify them as 'midlife' - career wise.

Then you have the young ones. Some are good, some are not.

Carl Edwards is a class act. Compare him to the "other" ones. Most of the others are punks, again, IMWO (w = worthless).

So, when the old guys finally get put out to pasture, who will take their place? Who's natural skill, "presence" and leadership will transcend the sponsor crap and be a "driver's driver"? Who will take the time to "talk" to the young one's?

My money is on Dale Jr.

That man has had so much to overcome....unbelievable. But look at him now. Listen to what he says, how he talks, what he talks about.

It was not that long ago that listening to Dale Jr in an interview...was painful. It was painful because you could tell he was not liking it....not sure what to say, etc.

Not this year.

Compare Jr to Jeff Gordon. Seems that JG has had a "coming out" of sorts this year. "I'm tired of hiding my true feelings! I can be a tough guy, too!"

Oh, please. My apologies to any JG fans. But if a man feels the need to say that, then........ummmmm.......

No doubt the man can drive, but he is such a wussy...girlie man.

Good things are coming for Dale Jr.....we have not seen sh!t yet!!!!

I read several years ago that DJ was letting Dale Jr. use his helicopter / catch a ride, etc. That was payback for what Dale Sr. did for Dale Jarrett in the early years.

Good people are always looking to help out their friends, even if they are competition.

Thats how you can tell who the "good guys" are!

Ok, off my soap box and rant /off.

Dale Jr has got his head straight and I look for great things to come.

Especially the commercials! lol.

I love it when you get on your soapbox!

Great thoughts about the future and who will be the spokesman for the guys.

You may have posted that article to me, I have a short memory which comes in handy sometimes.

DJ has to be one of the all time good guys. He is a great example for all the younger ones to follow. If only they would. lol

Carl is definitely a nice kid, he just has to learn how to calm down a bit and not beat himself at times.

Jr has a huge love for the veterans example being his Speed show and what he talks about on his XM show. Lately he talks a lot about his future and how he plans to invest his money wisely. A great deal of maturity has set in for this young man. Now, if only we could find him a nice woman. [that's gonna be a tough one]

"Good people are always looking to help out their friends, even if they are competition.

AMEN! There are a few here on the Nascar thread as well, present company included.
