Time To Wake Up And Smell The Salsa (Burt Prelutsky Warns GOP Against Betraying The Base Alert)

understand that George Bush and his Republican colleagues think they can have it both ways with this so-called guest-worker program. Well, they can't. Gussy it up any which way you like, it's still amnesty. And like Reagan's amnesty program of '86, it will be another disaster for America.

Either the GOP is for more and more Mexicans coming across the border or they're not. But they should be warned that, if it's the former, they run the very real risk of eliminating themselves as a major political party. Even though I realize that taking a strong, principled stand on this issue could alienate certain major business interests and the Catholic hierarchy, I'm convinced that not doing so will constitute political suicide.

A few years ago, I suggested that if Republican challenger Bill Simon were to have any shot at unseating our inept governor, Gray Davis, he had to come out forcefully against the epidemic that was bleeding California's schools, health services and prisons, dry of much needed funds. Simon, a man with the looks and charisma of Mortimer Snerd, came surprisingly close, losing by a scant 4 percent. I have no doubt he would have won if he'd taken my advice. By not daring to risk offending the Hispanic voters, who naturally went overwhelmingly for the Democrat anyway, Simon merely gave the state's conservatives a good excuse to stay home on Election Day.

Any Republican who believes that turning a blind eye to the problem will generate boundless gratitude among Mexican voters is probably the same sort of pinhead who harbors the hope that blacks and Jews will soon be lining up to join the party. Being as stupid as Republicans are, perhaps it wouldn't be such a tragedy if they disappeared from the political landscape, going the way of the dodo and other inferior species.

We keep hearing how essential the guest-worker program is to our financial well-being. If the ruling class really wanted to do something substantive along those lines, there are a couple of things that come to mind. First off, they should deport the directors of every company that moves its factories overseas. Let these greedy pigs go live wherever in hell they've sent the jobs of working Americans. Or we could slap back-breaking tariffs on the goods they manufacture in those Third World cesspools, forcing them to try to turn a profit selling their widgets to the dollar-an-hour workers who produced them.

Finally, I, for one, am getting sick and tired of hearing how without a never-ending stream of uneducated illegals, the entire economy of the greatest industrialized nation in the history of the world would soon collapse like a fallen soufflé.

Frankly, I doubt if the world has heard so much claptrap along those lines since the plantation owners wept into their mint juleps while contemplating the end of slavery.

The GOP better wake up and smell the salsa. The base wants NO AMNESTY and wants our BORDERS SECURED. If it betrays us, ITS GONE. I'm sick and tired of the hispandering and seeing the greatest country in the history of the world turned into Mexerica. HELLO - THIS IS AMERICA.

Here's the thing: the problem is uncontainable unless the border is fully secured. Let's build a true wall, the most impenetrable thing Armed Forces engineers can craft, and put 48,000 members of the military on the border.

Second, let's require English fluency for everyone who wants to live in the U.S.

Third, lets dismantle the balkanized ESL system which teaches immigrants in Spanish and so balkanizes them and renders them a state-dependent group of Democratic voters.

Ditto, I will not vote for a Rino, and if given the choice betwixt a Rino Rat Lite and a true Rat, I will vote for the Rat. I prefer to keep my enemies to my front, not in my midst or rear.

Let's just say this program applied to 11 million, and it took eleven years to gain citizenship. Generally, that would mean we'd average 2 million people immigrating here a year (considering the honest ones that came in line)....oh, let's not forget the fact that they can bring family here on this as well. So when you really come down to it your talking about a boat load of people that really have no reason to show allegiance to our Constitution and form of government. In other word: liberals/socialists.

And with the general senate view on enforcement, we might as well hand US over to mexico. All they need to do to join this amnesty...I mean 'guest worker program', is some proof of being here for a certain amount of time. The means of proving you were here is rather open and is going to be filled with fraud. In the mean time, half of Mexico [okay there's a little sarcasm] will be coming here to join the program by any means necessary. So you should all learn how to live in a third world nation or nominate good representives...either/or.

All cultures are not created equal.

"Second, let's require English fluency for everyone who wants to live in the U.S."

I remember a situation where a girl came from El Salavador, and she spoke better English than most here. She was in fact, fairly embarassed of her accent, and I offered to help her. Shamefully, I was a rather bad liar or too confidant in my own abilities...I still haven't figured that one out.

Those that come here legally, usually are very good people. Sometimes better than some of our own.

I agree with you on the wall, the military on the border, and English as the official language; anything less will lead to our downfall as a nation.

Wow this guy sounds like an inverted marxist. Sounds like he wants to set up his own central committee politburo telling people how to run their businesses. What's next? Gulags Mr. Prelutsky for those who take a risk and try to bring the best product at the best price, because they didn't follow your whims.

And also a voucher program so that parents can leave the grip of the balkanizing leftist teachers unions, BTW, who I never hear criticized on these threads.

I think the leftist teachers union and NEA should be disbanded and outlawed.

It's every bit a threat as illegal immigration amd multiculturalism.

Damn the kid-hating, indoctrinating, thieving leftist teacher unions!

Done! Any other irrelevancies you want addressed before you return to personally maligning as 'marxist' or 'pro-teacher-union' those who oppose your much-loved amnesty proposal?

What is irrelevant about mentioning the damage the leftist teachers union have done. You will notice that all these protests are happening in public schools and not in parochial ones.

And I am not for amnesty. I've said many times I support the Kyl/Cornyn proposal.

The problem with the Calif. GOP lies in Orange County/SoCal. Simon's "scant defeat" by 4% is hardly "SCANT." Let's take a hard look at California Republicans and their laisons with the friggin' dem power brokers. Nah, can't do that...

I think the "no amnesty" bill is wrong-headed.

We should have a simple law that any employer who hires an illegal alien be imprisoned on the first offense for not less than 2 years nor more than five years without parole nor any alternative punishment. This will include EACH official in the company that is involved in the placement of workers, and it will require that any employee hiring must be signed off on from the hiring department all the way to the chief officer of that company. Any in that chain who approve hiring an illegal will have committed the criminal offense and been involved in conspiracy to illegally hire. This law will require every hiree to provide proof of American citizenship or a green card with these records being xeroxed for file and submitted for verification to the appropriate agencies.

It is my opinion that we are already in WWIV ( WWIII being the Cold War ) and there are two, somewhat interlocking elements to it:

Wow your "simple" law means a lot more paperwork and added beaucracy, doesn't sound so simple to me. How about getting out of an employers way to do such good things as grow food or build buildings.

How about throwing their as$ in jail for breaking the law. It'll stop illegal immigration in its tracks. With no jobs there will be incentive to come to this country.

Require them to validate that EVERY employee with no exceptions is an American citizen or a green card holder.

That's not asking too much.

An additional law will require that any recipient of any government aid program of any variety be an American citizen.

Also, another law should end the practice of citizenship being granted to any child who does not have at least one parent who already is an American citizen.

Correction: Also, another law should end the practice of citizenship being granted to any child born here.

It should be granted only to a child who has at least one parent who already is an American citizen.

“Forget the long-running bipartisan concern about creating an educated, highly skilled workforce. What the U.S. economy desperately needs is more high-school dropouts - so desperately that we should import them hand over fist.

Such is the logic of the contention by advocates of lax immigration that the flow of illegal labor from south of the border is a boon to our economy.”
