If the Shas party said they would not sit in a coalition that included gays, the media would be all over them like white on rice, calling them "bigots," "intolerant," "fascist," "fanatics," etc.

Steven Plaut notes the Labor Party has lost half its strength since the halcyon days of Oslo and Meretz has fared as poorly. If Labor enters into the government, one can only hope Amir Peretz isn't given a responsible position dealing with the economy. That would be a disaster. The strange thing is the Governor General Of Israel's Bank and the editor of
Haaretz's economics section are both leftists but are free market proponents. Israeli politics is like that where some people's economics and ideologies are harder to follow than a Chinese puzzle!

Gotta give it to em, they are dedicated. Millions of Muslims want to cut their throats and their big issue is the acceptance of their sex preference.

Homosexuals are like Muslims, they get their way with temper tantrums and protest. I tend to like things that piss off both. Both tend to not bother me too much, because I do not consider it my duty to make their bitter lives offense free.
It is nice being free. I have the freedom to not br ruled by offense.

Last I heard Prime Minister Olmert wasn't terribly keen on inviting Meretz into the coalition. IMHO, that would be no loss. Besides, Meretz have said they won't sit in coalition with Yisrael Beitenu and today's Jerusalem Post claims Prime Minister Olmert wants Avigdor Lieberman and his party in the coalition. If so, Meretz can definitely sit in opposition with their five seats.
