Its coming soon..
So you think it reformed out of it's own encouragement?
No, it reformed because of internal and external political, military and economic concerns. It reformed because it had a platform and the required stability to do so.
Something that Islam has never had and never will unless the rest of the planet gets fully involved.
Talk to me in about 250 years and we will take a look at what we have accomplished thus far and the changes that long term efforts have wrought.
I think we will be pleasantly surprised, if we stay the course with diplomatic and social efforts backed up by overwhelming military force if necessary and used judiciously.
10 generations should show a reversal and a totally different dynamic in the Middle East or frankly speaking, we have no hope for the survival of democracy into the next millennium.
The use of military force only, will bring disaster and only buy bits of time as western economies collapse under the pressure and lack of a secure environment in which to flourish.
If you cannot grow, you die.
I don't see any other alternative but to bring them along gradually and allow natural social pressures to change them from within. All the available tools are needed to do this and a understanding of the time that it will take to be successful. (That means patience)
What I find slightly amusing is that we are actually encouraging liberalism, and I suppose some conservatives find it distasteful, but balance is critical to reformation.
They might not exist yet. But Dan Simmons certainly gave his story an intriguing and thought-provoking ending. My offering would be "Sticks and stones."
*shrug* Japan rather quickly reformed after we crushed their will to fight.

I was replying to #124 so it is not my assumption but the assumption of (antiantiamericans) one of the posters who disputed my conclusion. I was pointing out to him that they, (the three words I selected), were indeed in the writing. I don't agree they have to be.
The 3 words. 'It's Bush's fault'.
I don't know.
I can propose five syllables in Arabic which would strike any "Replayer" to the core, cause in them the same visceral wrath they do in me, which translate into three words in English:
"Allahu akbar!"
Awesome. I like your's better. I also came up with.
Islam means Peace
Religion of Peace
War on Terror
and my favorite...
Resistance is futile
I would think that they aren't in the main text. They would have to be new, and somewhat unexpected to have that kind of impact.
Like the punchline to a good joke, he didn't see it coming.
OOPS! I took credit for "War on Terror" but that belonged to antiantiamericans. Sorry antiantiamericans. I cut and pasted.
My sincerest apologies.
Islam cannot be divided. It is the same koran, the same hadith used by all.
Islam is the enemy
Agreed! Read #170. My favorite is now
Resistance is futile.
Correction: its not all Bush's fault.. but he is not guiltless..
The Mexican border and all the problems that entails will trump any proper future govenment activites on a range of issues.. including the War with Islam.. A Balkanized U.S. will hamstring any proper response to most any problem..
Illegals can and WILL vote with some decent ID easily gotten on the street.. Federal government has never worked well even without all the current problems.. And when federal government exacerbates the problems and encourages new ones.. Devolution will be result.. Devolution of what?.. Devolution of the Republic.. into a mere democracy..
With the Middle east it is a religion that is at issue and one that has over a billion adherents under unstable governments or totalitarian theocracies and/or some combination.
It is a religion that is ripe for reform and one that does have some basis to do so, although that basis has been covered up by centuries of damage done by prophet Mohammad's insane ramblings interpreted in all sorts of ways, and the creation of Sharia as a direct result of no effective governments or constitutions.
The root of it stems from the intentional intertwining of religion and government. A problem also faced by Christianity and most other religions.
We did not have these issues with Japan. The closest comparison would be European history where the church was the government for a time. A long time!
We can be successful, but you have to view it long term. You have to project far into the future and there will never be immediate or even any sort of gratification for any current generation to see.
Not a easy thing to do, but it is the only legitimate way to look at this problem as I see it.

Ummm...what were the three words?
Thanks for adding to my worries. Sometimes wisdom hurts.
So, I googled "dhimmi."
