SUGAR LAND, Texas -- U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay's campaign staff invited supporters to disrupt a news conference Thursday by the Democrat vying for his seat, turning it into a shouting, finger-pointing shoving match.

Ordinarily I think political disputes are best settled in the voting booth and not with fisticuffs.

But watching Fox News this evening and seeing Weiner and Schuman spew their idiocy, I'm beginning to think Democrats just need to be hit upside the head with the ballot box.

Reportedly, the only punches thrown were by DeLay supporters. Too bad the AP picked this up. It will be widely known, now. Embarassing for the Republicans.

The earlier article had Marsha Rovai as 70. I guess she got younger.

There were no injuries in the shouting and shoving match that erupted. Sugar Land police were called, but they made no arrests.

"I got pushed. I got hit. I got a sign wadded up in my face and my hat pulled down over my eyes," said Marsha Rovai, 69, a Lampson supporter. "They just did it to be nasty."

Homan, who was at the news conference, said Lampson supporters "got rough" with protesters by grabbing some of their signs.

I just love how the only person who gets touched is a 70/69-year old woman. Of course.

Oh, for anybody reading, SSS is a DeLay hater and a Lampson (D-just outside the district) supporter by default if not in fact.

Thankfully, DeLay won't be on my ballot this fall. So even if I disapprove of his corruption, how does that make me a Lampson supporter by default? There is no chance I'll vote for Lampson. I will vote for the Republican unless it's David Wallace.

Of course, that tells me that you expect David Wallace to be the nominee. I know the 1%er game by now. But what exactly are you agitating for this time?

Anybody who's so stupid as to believe a geriatric hippie professional protestor is either...well, stupid...or on a mission.

I don't know what I'll do if Wallace is the nominee. I would prefer someone from outside of the unethical confines of Fort Bend County. My opposition to Wallace is due to the way the Republican leadership has handled DeLay's announcement. First of all, DeLay won't resign in time for a May 13 special election. Secondly, Gov. Perry won't call for an emergency special election. This was all designed to allow the precinct chairs to appoint the Republican nominee. I would have preferred that the voters get to decide the nominee. The winner of the special election would undoubtedly be a Republican in this 60+% GOP district. But as Fort Bend Republican Chair Eric Thode says, the Republican leadership is afraid the voters will make the wrong choice.

David Wallace is apparently DeLay's handpicked successor. Within an hour of DeLay's announcement that he was quitting the race Monday night, Wallace announced as a candidate. If the precinct chairs nominate someone other than Wallace, they will have acted independently. If it is Wallace, there will be doubt.

I have no idea what the precinct chairs will do.

You are so wrong. The place where corruption is is Travis County. You are aiding and abetting the criminal abuse of office of Ronnie Earle. You are his bootlick, his monkey-boy and everytime any ordinary American citizen gets unfairly railroaded by the courts, you are to blame.

Ronnie Earle is abusing his prosecutorial powers. How am I aiding that? I am opposed to his actions.

I will not condone DeLay's corruption related to the Abramoff scandal, though.

No news report mentioned Abramoff. Every single one mentioned his being under indictment.

Every single one.

And never mind that Abramoff has nothing to say about DeLay.

Several news reports have mentioned Christine DeLay's sham employment with Buckham. Several news reports have said those "employment" records have been subpoenaed. Tony Rudy told the court he was aware of things of value given to officials including "employment for the relatives of officials".

Buckham's transfer of $115,000 to Christine DeLay will be the quid pro quo.

Gee, $115,000 sounds like a large salary.

Over how many years? (Hint: I know the answer.)

It doesn't matter for how many years. It matters that she did no more work than Lisa Rudy did at her firm Liberty Consulting. Lisa Rudy tried to claim she "earned" her money too, but Tony Rudy finally admitted it wasn't true. That's why I put "employment" in quotes. That is how the Abramoff/Buckham scandal worked. They "hired" wives and paid them, but they didn't do anything. Have you been following this case?

Do you really find it a mitigating factor that the bribe was paid over three years?

FWIW, the Weekly Standard looked into Christine DeLay's "employment". They can't find evidence that she did any work.

It is difficult to determine where the U.S. Family Network ends and the Alexander Strategy Group begins. From 1998 to 2002, Christine DeLay was an employee of the Alexander Strategy Group, yet she seems to have been paid out of commissions the Buckhams took from the network. Those payments amounted to around $3,000 a month.

Last November, the DeLays' attorney, Richard Cullen, told the Washington Post that Christine DeLay had been paid $115,000 over three years to, as the Post put it, "determine the favorite charity of every member of Congress." To date, there is no evidence that DeLay compiled a list of 535 charities.
