A new survey shows strong support for making English the state's official language.

A new poll of likely voters by Zogby International shows 82 percent of Arizonans support the idea of making English the official state language.

An English language ballot measure is under consideration by the state Legislature and could go to voters in November.

The Republican Legislature approved an English language bill last year but it was vetoed by Democratic Gov. Janet Napolitano.

Yeah, but will we still have to have a half dozen other languages on everything wasting tax dollars?

McDonald's already tried a Spanish menu, next it'll be Taco Bell.

A state law making English the official language would certainly be challenged as an abridgement of the 1st amendment's right to free speech.

I'll never forget the last paragraph of an article I read in the mid-nineties in the WSJ.

I had the usual multi-culti, "let's just go along" bushwha until the end, when the reporter interviewed a naturalized Mexican American. He said,

"In the schools, they teach my children Spanish, so they can be maids, and houseboys, and gardeners...
...at home, I teach them English, so they can be Doctors or Lawyers, or Engineers..."

That article stuck with me like few others do. It's so simple, and so true.

Besides being the language of business, American English is the language of computers and technology. A person not at least competent with it is badly handicapped in today's world.
