Are you a scorpion?

We all know that disheartening sound: a
bird smacking into a window in our house
or office building. The fact that birds strike
our windows every day is not only sad, it's
serious: more birds die because of
collisions with glass than any other factor
associated with human activity. Anywhere
from 100 million to 1 billion birds are killed
by window strikes each year. These strikes
account for the death of up to 5% of the fall
bird population. As the number of our
homes and offices continues to grow, the
number of bird deaths is likely to increase
as well.

From the Pensacola News, it looks like he never applied for, and further claims he doesn't have to get a building permit at all. I don't like permits and the building code BS that they entail, but this is a major construction open to the public. It's not a home job. They've ignored the govm't of the densely populated FL Co. he put it in and the IRS. He also claims his business activities aren't taxable. Can't say anyone's nitpicking about his activities. He's started a major confrontation.

Whenever it is suggested that organized matter performing specific functions might be due to intelligent design, count on many and loud protests, not so much in defense of science but out of unfounded fear. You are correct in noting the PH's concern as not so much the advancement of science, but the advancement of a philosophy with which he and like-minded folks are comfortable. That's okay. That's why we live in a free republic.

"Yet you'll ping for a thread to discredit one "creationist"?"

The dude discredited himself. He failed to even attempt to get a permit for his theme park in Escambia County, FL. He said, "I don't need a permit." There's no nitpicking going on by the County authorities, the man just brushed them off. He also brushed off the IRS in his business dealings. His legal mouthpeice hawks tax evasion schemes.

"Who was the 900 foot jesus dude?"

Mark Griffin, but I'm not sure what he has to do with any of this.

Sci American almost (IMO) died when Martin Gardner retired.

Doug Hofsteader was a good replacement, but then he left too.

Gosh, life is so much better now because of the Internet.

Sometimes I have to ask myself why I seem unable to stop myself from clicking on these threads.

I have the same reaction every time. Here I am, able to view the world from my home via a computer, and some of the same people doing the same thing are somehow stuck in the 15th century and proud of it.

I just don't get it.

The flat earth society is alive, well and growing.

Just kill me now.

"...scientists will assure you that a 3 day dead body has millions of dead cells that cannot be restored to life. The chemical changes cannot be reversed, the organs have had it! To restore that situation would require ......su..per..nat..tur..al.. power."

Oh, you forgot to mention that one plus one equals two!

Does this make any sense to anyone?

It's easy enough to understand. It speaks for itself.

You do seem to have a very flexible mind.

I'm guessing that back in the day, you would have been the 1st one to string up any of the astronomers who differed from the establish Church doctrine at the time.

Yep you sure got me pegged. Christ taught us Christians to hate our enemies and persecute them.

But "back in the day" us commoners were not allowed to read the bible. So maybe it was more your day then mine.

**Reading your post...You seem to be angry, but aware.**

I tell people I tend to be 'serious, with a smile', much of the time.

**That Acts 2:38 thing is ummm........................interesting.......................**

It's the big picture, the 'born again' experience, and it has happened to more than just simple folk. I know some of them to be very well educated, very smart people. When one is filled with the Holy Spirit, he makes his presence known by speaking through that person, in a language that he/she did not previously know. It is a shockingly real happening. I made fun of such people in times past, but since I've 'been there, done that', there is no doubt that God is real to me. (I've witnessed some that have just spoken some gibberish on their own so they could be 'part of the club'. Those people don't seem to last, which doesn't surprise me).

Really? I always though that science was about proving things in a way that others could replicate the results.

That is my point. As for evolution there are two kinds of replication. One replicates results that do not prove what happened in the past directly. The other applies only to evolution as an ongoing process.

I am inclined to think evolution happened because it seems to best fit the evidence. I just don't think it can be scientifically proved, and I think banning alternative views in the name of science is nonsense. As you go back into the history of biology, science is less and less applicable. You must rely more and more on assumption and less on empirical evidence.

yeah, but ironically there are no warnings that the followers of Christ would murder, rape, plunder, and pillage, affecting people in great numbers, in the name if Christ.

Christ did not murder, rape, plunder, and pillage. Thus such actions are not part of following Christ. Moreover people who have done any such thing must repent in order to follow Christ.

Christ already told us there would be some calling him "Lord Lord" who will be condemned at the time of judgment, for he never knew them.

For a guy who wasn't there, you sure know lots of facts!

the scare quotes around the word believe are ironic.

I think you misunderstood the reason I used quotes. I was trying to draw a distinction between those who put an emotional investment in evolution as opposed to those (like myself) who are inclined to think it happened only because of evidence, and would not be upset if it tomorrows evidence shows something different.
