PORTLAND, Maine (AP) -- Witnesses reported that a teenager wearing a bandana hit a counter-protester on the head at Monument Square. The victim fell to the ground bloodied, and was taken away by an ambulance before the demonstration officially began.
The victim was one of about three people carrying signs arguing that illegals have no rights and should be deported.
After the assault, about 200 people gathered to peacefully voice support for reforms that would legalize an estimated eleven million undocumented immigrants.
One of the organizers, Portland attorney Rafael Galvez, says people will remember how members of Congress vote. He says lawmakers have before them an opportunity to be either "compassionate or cruel."
The Immigrants of Peace.
I can't speak for how things get done in Maine- but in my home state of California- the answer would probably be a 'yes'.
Citizen assaulted by protestor advocating civil disobedience.
Those of us who actually have the right as Americans to vote will remember who is willing to sell us to the mexicans.
That's right, Rafael. The vast majority of the electorate is decidedly anti-illegal immigration and will be watching those votes very closely.
Congress critters should note that they have an opportunity to represent the citizens of this country or of a foreign power. And US voters will take note.
"After the assault, about 200 people gathered to peacefully voice support for reforms that would legalize an estimated eleven million undocumented immigrants."
So they were peaceful only if you don't count that whole beating-a-kid-into-a-bloody-pulp-thing. I really hate the MSM. If one illegal got shoved at a pro-USA rally, the MSM would describe the whole march as either a riot or a lynching.
just beating protestors Americans aren't willing to beat.
Looks like the Che T-shirts are now hidden...as real undershirts.
"One of the organizers, Portland attorney Rafael Galvez, says people will remember how members of Congress vote. He says lawmakers have before them an opportunity to be either 'compassionate or cruel.'"
Yes, by all means - compassion toward lawbreakers is cruelty to the law-abiding. And we law-abiding Americans WILL remember.
Someone needs to start a live thread of all the violence about to occur.
Are we as Americans too 'passive' to fight back? Why do we let illegals/mexicans beat us up? If this continues, we deserve what we get....
Anyone guilty of assault should be prosecuted - I hope we are not going to smear an entire group based on a few over-the-top protesters.
The entire group smears themselves, actually.
< After the assault, about 200 people gathered to peacefully... >
< I wonder if the people who attacked this man will get a free pass? >
Of course, because they were peaceful AFTER the assault.
I'm going to smear the entire group of Mexican flag-waving ingrates.
But we agree the violent ones should be prosecuted.
