I'm with you to the extent that I don't get caught up in grilled cheese apparitions. Nevertheless, this cross brought comfort to a lot of people. Mass was said underneath it every morning during the recovery operation. In that sense, it is more than a piece of metal to some people, and one would think liberals would be going out of their way to protect the feelings of those who value it.

I agree. I'm just saying I give it no undue attention. Whatever most people want is fine with me. If an anxious, loud minority wants it removed, I'd be against it not on a substantive ground, but on the fact that a terminally offended minority can't expect their every whim humored by the majority.
If most NYCers want it removed, I'd be fine with that.
If most NYCers want it to remain, or placed in a memorial or other place of honor, I'd be fine with that, too.
I just have no horse in this race. Bigger fish to fry. That's all.
