A Marine reservist returning home after eight months in Iraq was told he couldn't board a plane to Minneapolis because his name appeared on a watch list as a possible terrorist.

Staff Sgt. Daniel Brown, who was in uniform and returning from the war Tuesday with 26 other Marine military police reservists, was delayed briefly in Los Angeles until the issue was cleared up.

I'm glad we have the Marines fighting for us.

Does anyone really feel protected with the TSA in charge? This is shameful and ridiculous.

his name appeared on a watch list as a possible terrorist.

Because Daniel Brown is such a unique name.

Obviously a cover for the real reason - Some Catholic in TSA has set this up to hassle the author of The Da Vinci Code

I agree. While annoying, and certainly not without irony, I fail to see why this is a story.

But then again I consistently fail to read the Star and Sickle too...

LOL. It is tough when that is the only rag available. I used to read it daily when I first arrived in Italy, but wow it is just full of bad news whether it be a guy getting busted for drugs or Bush doing something wrong. I think it is amazing how liberal the rag is and it is for military folks.

Long enough to miss his flight and make his friends and family wait longer for him. A uniformed Marine.

Ah, you're talking about Stars and Stripes. The article posted was sourced to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.

I'll agree with you, though. Stars and Stripes was unreadable back when I was in, and I'm certain it hasn't strolled anywhere toward the right in the intervening years.

Can you imagine this happening in World War 2? LOL!

"I'm terribly sorry Sergeant Basilone. We can't allow you to board this transport home, because you might be a Japanese soldier."

(Thunderstruck silence, followed by a spash when the TSA screener lands in the harbor.)

Was he in a "service" uniform, like camouflage? Or was he in his dress uniform? If the former, what is there to distinguish him from the thousands of other people who wear such attire.

Gosh! Even deer hunters will be delayed at the airport because they are wearing camouflage?

Even in cammies, servicemen and women are required to be in FULL uniform. This includes name and rank (even if it is subdued) on the outside of your uniform, as well as an ID that identifies you as a servicemember. I don't think more hunters have their name on their cammies, or at least most that I know, and none have a rank insignia on their cammies.

Since I got 404'ed when I tried to access the full article I was unaware that the Marine was forced to catch a later flight. Oh, the humanity.

Yeah, right, as if their IQ climbed 50 points (to a grand total of 50 points) by federalizing.

When we went through security they swabbed my bags and found gunpowder residue," he said. "Once that happened they made me dump all my gear. They swabbed all my gear and found gunpowder residue on my boots. I had a lot of gear in Fallujah the first time."

Gunpowder residue on an active combat marines gear the horrors George bushes grand tsa expierements is a unparalled success! I wander how many arabs were not screened at all because Leon Mineta directive of only screening two arabs per flight was already met?
