Arrest in Lancaster Co. Murders
Relative of Victims Suspected
WPVI

LEOLA, Pa. (AP) - April 13, 2006 - Police checking on a home in a tiny southeast Pennsylvania town discovered a gruesome scene: the bodies of six people, some wrapped in sheets and blankets in the basement, and blood, bone fragments and a hammer upstairs, authorities said Thursday.
At 11:30am, officials are currently holding a news conference and announcing the names of the victims as well as information about an arrest in the case. All of the victims are apparently members of the same family, and the suspect is also apparently a member of the family. Action News reporter Vern Odom is on the scene and will have an update on Action News at Noon.

Police checking on the home discovered the gruesome scene: the bodies of six people, some wrapped in blankets in the basement, and blood, bone fragments and a hammer upstairs, authorities said Thursday.

Jesse Wise, whose grandfather owned the home, was charged with six counts of homicide, police said

Authorities did not immediately say how the victims died. Officials have now said they all died from multiple traumas.

Police initially reported discovering five bodies in the home after a friend of the homeowner called 911 Wednesday afternoon saying the owner had called concerned about his family.

Jessie L. Wise, 60, the owner, was in New York and told the friend he was worried because he hadn't heard from his family since Friday, authorities said.

The friend, John Sean Adams, 24, called police about 3 p.m. Wednesday and entered the home with East Lampeter Township police Officer Samuel Sanger.

According to the affidavit, Adams went into the basement, stopped halfway down the steps and turned back and yelled, "They're all dead."

Sanger discovered "at least four people lying on the basement floor clearly lifeless," the affidavit says. It wasn't immediately clear where the other two bodies were found.

Leola, a town of about 750 residents in Lancaster County, is 45 miles southeast of Harrisburg.
