My immigrant ancestor came from Dublin in 1769, indenturing himself to make the trip. He worked for a Virginia planter (in-law of George Washington), joined the Virginia militia during the Indian wars, then the Continentals in Washington's army. That was two enlistments, then volunteered for a third.
Was among the sick at Valley Forge, and wounded at Camden or Stony Point battle losing the use of his right arm. Two of his sons fought the British in War of 1812 and at least one in each generation served in every war since.
