9-11 is not a past event. 9-11 is everyday in the heart and souls of those who give a damn.

My father died three years ago yesterday. One of the things he said the day before he died was that he was scared for our country because of how complacent and weak we have allowed ourselves to become.

I'm not saying that those who are not going to see the movie are wimps. I am saying that I believe we as a nation seem to have forgotten what the Islamic jihadis were willing then and I fear are more than willing now to do unless we strengthen our resolve - and destroy them.

Those hijackers on Flight 93 and all the other flights were in my opinion nothing more than khawarij which must be utterly vanquished and destroyed. They could not be reasoned with on 09/11 - they can't be reasoned with today.

Sorry about being a little off topic, and I thank you for your service.

I am very interested in seeing this film and sincerely hope that it is not an attempt to humanize the terrorists that committed these attacks.

I was on a different United Airlines flight the morning of September 11th, 2001. It was definitely a turning point in my life. It was also the day that I really discovered talk radio. I shared a small rental car with several strangers from the flight for a ten hour drive home from Chicago as it was immediately apparent that our flight would not be rescheduled. We listened to AM news and talkshows the entire trip trying to find out all that we could. I have since tuned in and logged on several hours a day to the "new media".

It's gonna bring back some bad memories about September 11th.

That may be the whole point. We can't forget, nor must we be persuaded to.

I watched the A&E movie and thought it was quite well done. I have no intention, however, of seeing this version in a theater while people sit around me munching on popcorn and slurping out of oversized cups. I may buy it if it comes out on DVD so I can watch it in the privacy of my own home and fall apart all over again without an audience and while affording the subject matter the respect it deserves.

Two movies people "must" see this year...

Brokeback Mountain (or else you're a bigot).

United 93 (or else you're a Michael Moore-loving liberal).

Let Freedom Ring.

... caused the Lord's Prayer to be recited on prime-time television ...

Of all the things that created the most poignant tears and reflection on that horrible day and the days that immediately followed was a television interview with the telephone operator who recited the Lord's Prayer with Todd Beamer. It was ... beautiful, tragic, moving, and REAL. The woman was a lovely, classy, well-spoken black lady, who talked about her conversation with Beamer. She was so very ... classy, is the first word that comes to mind, but more than that, she was supremely human and beautiful, compassionate yet in the telling of the story she made it so much more poignant because she resisted the impulse to be maudlin or emotional about it.

She told of the conversation in a very straight-forward manner. When she started talking about how he asked her to recite the Lord's Prayer with her over the phone .. well, I still weep when I think about it. These are tears not only of sadness, but of pride, of wonder, of gratitude, of gladness that I share this world with and am of the same human family as this woman and Todd Beamer. It was a quintessential American story -- of two strangers, a black woman and a white man, sharing such a powerful moment and giving each other -- and our nation -- strength and love.

Some people, when asked what are the most lovely creatures on the planet, will say "dolphins," or "eagles," or "butterflies," or some such. I say that hands down, the most beautiful creatures on earth are human beings. Yes, we're capable of great evil -- but we're capable of even greater love and magnificence, as United 93 proves.

I plan on seeing the movie in the theater because I want to show my support for such a project.

Now, every Hollywood entertainment vehicle has to have a romantic element in it, and well informed sources tell us, that in this movie the memorable scenes will have the two beautiful people on the flight (the $20 million stars, whodya think?) joining the mile high club just before disaster strikes.

This was the first battle won, without any weapon but guts, I will go to celebrate that rare trait.

Maybe some of that bravery will rub off on me.

Hello,

That is a powerful and well written post, thank you. (I also plan to see the movie, after the sacrifice and bravery of those on Flight 93, I believe it is the least I can do).

Glad to be here, MOgirl

There don't seem to be any $20 million stars involved. I looked at a long cast list, and the only name that rang a faint bell was Denny Dillon, who was on Saturday Night Live years ago.

Thanks. Have just done a bit of online research. The woman was GTE Supervisor Lisa Jefferson, and together she and Beamer recited the 23rd Psalm. Funny, how such a tragic thing transcends death and tragedy to become a thing of incredible strength and power of love.

Rush Limbaugh said on his show today that he was going to a private screening of United 93 today. Let's hope he gives us a review tomorrow. If Rush says there's any sympathy for the terrorists I'll skip it. I'm hoping it honors the Americans who fought back.

Has anyone heard a rating on this yet ... PG, PG-13 ... or anything about the level of violence, profanity, etc.?

If it tells the story = there will be violence - and the profanity is the terrorists....EVERYone should see - particularly the children. This is not fiction- this is what happened. This is about brave Americans that, knowing full well what the outcome would likely be - nevertheless, gave their lives to save others - our country - US. Our children, tomorrow's leaders, need to know what we're up against. They certainly aren't getting it in school.

We owe it to those brave American Heroes. We owe it to our children.

It's time we put the Us back into the U.S. (That's another of my new slogan's - gotta get the bumper stickers made! "Time to put the US back in the U.S." m.t.
