Just thought folk on FR might like to know that our little town in the mountains of Colorado voted two nights ago to reject a resolution for impeaching President Bush. The resolution was intrroduced by a local wacko lefty on the Board of Trustees. It was the standard resolution supported by Moveon.org and other left wing groups.
Nice little town. Been there a few times. Ward takes the cake though.
Hey there! Been waaaaaay up there to Nederland. I am an IL native but lived in Longmont for almost 2 years.
Ward is definitely kooky. We are famous for our "frozen dead guy".
US out of the UN and UN out of the US (Harare, Zimbabwe sounds good for the UN)
Town has not changed much in 20 years, but more rational folks are moving into the area- professionals with young families and retirees with a little money. Change is slow but positive.
But of course on this issue wwe had lots of flatlander meddlers.
Good for you folks. Steady heads prevailed.
I love that little town.
*sigh*
I miss Colorado.
It was a close call. I was going to have to shun the town if it passed the resolution. Now I can stay and not feel alienated.
Being an old hippie town from the 70's and a stepchild of Boulder does not help make things run smoothly.
Come on back. We need a lot more conservatives to bring back the old Colorado spirit!
Someday I will. I have to.
I grew up in Chicago but moved to Colorado in my 20's and really felt John Denver's lyrics: "He was born in the summer of his 27th year, coming home, to a place he'd never been before."
When my husband told me he had a job offer in his native Canada, I felt like he'd punched me in the stomach.
The mountains get to you. I don't know what it is, but it's something very spiritual. Perhaps because you're closer to Heaven?
We used to go to Estes Park to hear the elks bugling every fall. Before our kids get too old, I will take them out of school and show them (again--they were too young to remember).
Take care! And thank you for your post. :)
Is it true that folks is Wyoming call folks from Colorado "Greenies"?
LOL! I went to law school at the U of Colorado in Boulder. It was there that I gradually became more and more conservative.
How this happened in that environment, I have NO idea! LOL!
I suppose it's because I've always had a soft spot for the underdog, and I admired some very smart students who argued for free markets and Christian rights, etc. They were members of clubs like the Federalist Society, and other club, but the name of the group escapes me now. They were smart, but definitely outvoted. :)
That, and I had a great professor, very smart, a conservative with experience on Wall Street.
Anyway.... enough Colorado/U.S. reminiscing. I guess. :) Because otherwise I might start to get sad. :)
Glad to see you where diverted from getting sucked in. I have never visited Bolder. But in the seventies before I gained political awareness to a point to know what is going on, I did understand the place was crawling with libs. But then we could name quite a few cities in the same dire straight.
Hope you make it back. You definitely appreciate the same things about Colorado that I do.
Unfortunately, you are correct. Colorado is definitely a state in transition. Conservatives need to stand tall and defend the values that made it a great western state before the Denver/Boulder/Vail/Aspen libs ruin the state and turn it into a Vermont!
I think one of the keys is to win back the education system. The old media is dying, so I think we will win back the media. But the education system is rife with die hard libs who are polluting our kids minds. This needs to end!!!
Well done!
Went to CU in the early 70's and the Pioneer Inn once or twice.(that I remember...)
