The media is already beginning it's campaign to promote their "annointed" conservative, McCain or Giuliani, to the top of the Republican ticket in '08.
Since leaving Congress some conservatives have been pretty hard on Newt. However, IMHO there is no other potential candidate that speaks the truth as forthrightly and conservative ideology as plainly as Newt. He connects well with the base on almost all issues (get the vote out) and he can speak to independents in a way they will understand.

Bob, do you really think he can get elected?
To: Bob J
I think the main reason I wouldn't support Newt is his grandiosity. He strikes me as someone who cannot be trusted. Everything with him is in need of a dramatic transformation, and I get the distinct feeling it's because he wants to be a dramatic transformer. I think he aspires to be the Jack Welch of government. Mr. I-can-boil-anything-down-to-5-"key strategies."
Well how'd things go for Newt when he actually was entrusted with some power and responsibility? Didn't he resign in shame because he was boinking a staffer while his wife was on her death bed? He's a great bloviator, which is why he's perfectly cast as a college professor or a guest on a talk show. He doesn't have the stuff to be president.

Yes. The media will attack, but they'll attach any pub, so what's the diff? he can rally the conservative base and he speaks to the independents.
Who else are we going to vote for...Rudy or John?

Newt doesn't have a large following on FR, some feel betrayed and unwilling to forgive. I think Newt makes many good points and I don't agree with everything he says but under the right circumstances he would get my vote.
Newt is a good speaker and could draw national support, we'll have to wait and see.

I could not vote for Newt for lack of trust.

I'm not sure I agree that he could be beat that easily, I think Newt can show them a little what-fer.
But then again, according to the MSM the ONLY pubs that could beat Hillary is Rudy or John. I guess we'll have top vote for them because, you know, the MSM are king-makers.

Well, you've got my ear. Correct the record. We know he resigned. Why did he resign, then? Was he not having an affair while his wife lay dying? Correct the record. I'm always open to the facts.

Who else are we going to vote for...Rudy or John? I would vote for Rudy or John over any Dem. I would also vote for Newt over any Dem, of course.

..Newt still proves his genius as a master strategist, gifted with the ability to analyze problems and voice practical solutions.
Having said that, his pomposity and train-wreck of a personal life would preclude him as a serious candidate.
But I hope he continues to speak out on the important issues.

He's more deserving of scorn and pity than the nomination. To watch his hunger for political relevence by championing HILLARY of all people is disgusting but I suppose irrelevence can have that effect. Oh and the cheating on the wife with his friggin secretary was real classy.
To: EveningStar
And Bob, you really think people are going to read documents that long on-line?
That's worse than the transcript of a clinton speech.
To: Huck
From what I've heard, and the MSM didn't tell you, they were separated and working out divorce details at the time. The separation took place before she was diagnosed with cancer.
I'm not saying the situation was great, but for all practical purposes their marriage was over. Newt resigned to save the pubs from a media generated scandal.
