"...Rangers on LRPs apparently routinely carried AKs in the bush, but would try not to use them in proximity of friendly forces, as they had a distinctive report and greenish muzzle flash, which could draw friendly fire.... And don't forget a nasty very LOUD and distinct "CLICK!!" when removing the safety!! Makes it tough for the close-in ambush...

Apparently the 6.8x43 SPC is dead for Army wide use the bean counters and Logistics commands have spoken.
Purely my opinion here: to everyone speaking about the 308, or 308 family of rounds, the round is too large so the number of rounds the average G.I. would be able to carry as soldiers are currently outfitted is too few, also the AR-10, M-14, M-1, and FN are all 10+ pounds, even the AR-15 and M-16 family are creeping over 8 with all the add ons. Humping a weapon, ammo, Class III Body Armor, water, and everything else keep the Army from piling on more, not ever unit is getting M-14's and then it is generally two per platoon, if I am mistaken, those who know please correct me.

yeah... but Hollywood LOVES it, don't they?
Sort of like the cowboy who racks the lever of his '94 or the Detective cocking the hammer of his double-action .38 when confronting bad guys... it sounds so MENACING!
