THE White House would announce shortly a shake-up of several of US President George W. Bush's key advisers, a spokesman said.
Scott McClellan said the impending changes were discussed by Mr Bush's new chief of staff, Josh Bolten, at a White House meeting.
"Josh talked about how this is a time to refresh and reenergise the team and for all of us to renew our commitment as we go forward," Mr McClellan said, without tipping his hand as to which posts might be reassigned.
The planned revamp comes as speculation mounts over the future of US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, after recent calls by several prominent retired generals for his resignation.
According to recent media reports, Treasury Secretary John Snow's days may also be numbered. But for now, Mr McClellan confined his remarks to the openings that have already been announced.
"Obviously the OMB (Office of Management and Budget) is vacant. We have been moving forward on that," he said, speaking about the post held until recently by Mr Bolten. He replaced Mr Bush's long-time chief of staff Andy Card.
Another post that needs to be filled is that of Mr Bush's long-time domestic-policy adviser, Claude Allen, who resigned earlier this year after being ensnared in a felony fraud sting.
With respect to other prospective changes, "I would expect some other announcements soon," Mr McClellan said.
The shake-up comes as Mr Bush's popularity ratings have tumbled to an all-time low, according to a poll published last week by The Washington Post newspaper.
The survey found that 60 per cent of Americans disapprove of Mr Bush's job performance, while just 38 per cent gave him a favourable rating.
Rumsfeld clones would drive them over the edge.
Hopefully Scot McClellan will be replaced. Carol Hughes would be ideal for that job.
Karen?
But hopefully Rumsfeld stays. 6 retired generals and the media can't be allowed to "win" on this latest smear campaign. It's bad enough what they've done to DeLay and so many others, and to Pres. Bush's poll numbers...although who really believes they're anywhere that low?! Creative, slanted, one-sided push-polling is the only approach used these days.
Isnt it Karen Hughs
Better yet, bring in Tom DeLay as the press secretary.
Amen....we need FIGHTERS!! John Snow is WEAK...Scott McClellan is ......actually, not sure ANYONE could do this job!!
As long as they keep Rumsfeld, I'm comfortable with changes. I sure wish they'd bring someone on board who had 'clue one' when it came to illegal immigration, but alas we're doomed to the thick heads on that subject.
The drive by media is still pushing the Bush poll numbers fraud. How many times can 38% be called an all time low? Why are respondents with conservative views excluded from these polls?
Get the mushmouths out and bring in people who have some fortitude and are not just operatives.
Did I studder? LOL
LOL
Duh!
Isn't it Carol Channing?
No matter how much pay McClellan draws, I wouldn't want that job. Everyday he faces the likes of Hellen Thomas, and that faggoty twit David Gregory that raised hell with him because the White House didn't call him to tell him about the Cheney hunting accident. He has to respect the confidentiality of the things his boss tells him. It would be real easy to tell some of those people to pound sand.
McClellan is such a wuss - we need ARI back - and Karen back in her old position - Those two would put the fear of God into the libs - including the MSM. and W's last two years would sore off the charts.
Come back, Ari and Karen!
Ari could! He did
He drove the press crazy - put the fear of God into them. He's like Rummy - he can, with a quip and a winning smile, make them look like the jaska*ses they are - and they knew it. It was fun to watch them cower
