Well, I can't totally agree with this article, being the mother of an eight year old boy with ADHD. Please don't tell me he doesn't have it. I'm a speech-langauge pathologist, I've worked with many, many children. I also have 2 other sons. I invite you to come to my house when my 8 year old is not medicated. I'm tired of hearing that we shouldn't medicate. The brain is an organ just like your liver, kidneys, pancreas...If your son had diabetes, would you not treat it?????

So what would have happened to him 50 years ago, besides getting a better education?

Yes, the brain is an organ, and so is skin. So what?
When did medicating kids start, 2000 years ago? Or maybe those kids were OK. Maybe it started 200 years ago, but no, wait, they were OK. Maybe it started when mother's selfishnesses took priority over her kids. That started what, maybe 20 years ago?
ADHDAHDA LMNOP is fake. You use it as an excuse, and so do government schools.

I agree with you. ADHD are real illnesses cause by chemical imbalances in the brain. There is evidence to suggest that ADHD, depression, OCD & bipolar disorder are all related. Often more than one condition is present. Additionally I believe these conditions are hereditary. Depression, addiction, ADHD etc runs in families. Nothing irritates me more than when people claim these conditions are bogus, or character flaws. Ive seen the difference medication makes with these conditions.
The problem is these conditions are over diagnosed. I would never let a general practitioner put my kid on medication after a 10 minute evaluation. I would insist on seeing a good psychiatrist and a ask for a TOVA to confirm the diagnosis
Also, I cant help but wonder if TV and video games doesnt over stimulate boys or somehow affect the development of their brain in a way that mimics ADHD.
