Germany: Honor Killing Rekindles Integration Debate

Berlin, 18 April (AKI) - The "honour killing" of a young Turkish woman by her brother and his subsequent trial and conviction have further plunged Germany into heated debate on the integration of Germany's seven million Muslim immigrants, Germany's Deutsche-Welle radio website reports. Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats (CDU) parliamentary group have demanded a "zero tolerance" policy for such murders, calling them "a shameful form of self-administered justice." Hatun Surucu, 23, was shot several times in the head at close range last year at a Berlin bus stop by her youngest brother Ayhan, 19. The murder caused revulsion in Germany, and led to street protests by Turkish women.

Ayhan, who a court last week sentenced to nine years and three months in prison, stated during his trial that he killed her for "bringing shame upon his family" by adopting a western lifestyle. She had returned to Germany after fleeing a forced marriage to her cousin in Turkey, and had chosen to bring up her small son alone. Two of Ayhan's other brothers were cleared of charges of conspiring to murder her.

The trial followed heightened debate on the German school system's ability to educate the children of immigrants after teachers in two violent inner-city schools in the capital, Berlin, said they feared they could not keep order in classrooms where 80 percent of pupils are the children of immigrants.

Germany's immigrant community forms nine percent of the country's population. Yet one-quarter of immigrants are unemployed and live on state benefits, half cannot speak German or speak it badly, and few have German citizenship.

Surucu's slaying and other high-profile incidents have increased concerns that the country mainly Turkish and Moroccan immigrants are becoming increasingly ghettoised and isolated from the rest of the country.

Nine years for murdering his own sister in cold blood. Someone's justice system needs an overhaul.

Does anyone know of one of these "honor killings" happening in the US? I can't think of one. I wonder why it hasn't happened here.

This is what happens when a nation consults "international" Islamic law.

I don't think "honor killings" happen here. Too much risk of backlash from all us gun-totin' redneck Americans. Praise God.

If Germany were smart, they'd encourage this Muslim population to go immediately to a country that is more hospitable to their Islamic values - preferably their nations of origin or ancestry. Suggest maybe Libya or Yemen if they don't want to go back where they came from. Infact, every Western nation should be doing this. All Islamic immigration to the West should be halted, all non-citizens of Muslim faith should, over time, have their visas revoked or be deported for being outside of legal status. Muslim citizens should be reminded over and over again that they owe loyalty to the nation in which they live, and that if they incite, advocate terrorism or otherwise create problems they will be arrested, imprisoned and then have their citizenship revoked.

Unfortunantly, none of this will happen. The West will continue capitulating to the Islamic scourge. Sigh....

As a general rule, I don't go to other countries and demand that they observe my habits and mores.

The honor killing of Tina Isa happened in South St.Louis about 1994. No one would have known it was an honor killing except for a phone tap on her parents phone recorded it. Her father Zein Isa-a Palistinian as I recall-was under surveillance in connection with the first
World Trade Center bombing. Tina had an African American boyfriend and then she got a job at a fast food restaurant. She was an honor student at Roosevelt High School. Zein Isa stabbed her to death while her mother held her down. They both went to prison. Zein died there. FBI had recorded the whole thing on unmonitored phone tap, it was a brutal and horrendous act.

Germany obviously can't read the handwriting on the wall. We, however, in the U.S. ought to be able to see it clearly in light of 9/11. No Muslim should be allowed to come to the United States and any here ought to be strongly encourage to reemigrate to their countries of origins. Islam is a malignant cancer and the only way to stop such a cancer is to stamp it out completely.

"Germany's immigrant community forms nine percent of the country's population. Yet one-quarter of immigrants are unemployed and live on state benefits, half cannot speak German or speak it badly, and few have German citizenship."

Note how simply being born in Germany does not automatically make you a German citizen.
