Yes, but the Berlin Wall worked...no one ran to West Berlin through the Wall.
Not true - lots of people made it across. Of course, there were also hundreds who died in the attempt, but there were thousands of successful escapes out of East Germany.

I would disagree. Yes, hundreds, even thousands, escaped. But MILLIONS escaped before the Wall went up.
