No, never employed an illegal and don`t think it`s a good idea. But, I`m old enough to know that many of them are here and they aren`t going to get tossed out. The country has to figure out how to deal with it and I think the President is on the right track.
The bigger issue is how to stop more illegals. If the choice comes down to increased border control ( a fence) and earned "amnesty" or no action at all if there is "amnesty", is an easy call, at least for me.

Rounding up and tossing out tens of millions of people is indeed an impossibility, so the perferred plan is to get them to self-deport. And the way to do that is to heavily fine employers who hire them, cut off their taxpayer freebies, and repeal the anchor baby laws. There'd then be no incentive for them to stay. ...or to come in the first place.

I asked about the livelihood because among Republicans it appears that only those with a financial stake in the peculiar interest of cheap illegal labor have any energy in the illegal cause. It is not a stance that springs up from conservative soil. Perhaps you are the exception.

You are so right on. Its pretty clear to me that if people don't start listening to other people the status quo will continue.

The insults get tiresome. I am pretty tired of having my Patriotism, my manhood(the spineless charge) called into question. But its the Internet so I will recover. I notice when I have a debate in person with folks that have the "deport them all" viewpoint they don't say that to my face. Its pretty funny to see people upset that there called racist. I think that been pretty rare in this debate actually. But many are the first to name call. Though a word of advice to people that hate being called racist. When you make a assumption about someone(an Illegal or legal Mexican) and apply to a whole group of people(Hispanic and Mexicans)Newsflash- that doesn't look good. Its good to avoid phrases like "They all" It just gives ammo to people that are calling you racist. For the record, I think most people are concerned about the Security and Identity of this country. The only reason ILLEGALS won't get tossed out is if defeatists such as yourself win out. I doubt they will in the long run. The vast majority of Americans want the ILLEGALS out of our country. Can't deport them? That idea has been debunked so many times on FR people are tired of doing it. It has been outlined very nicely on FR how we can get rid of them, several different ways in fact. What we lack is political will, our pols would rather pander for votes and/or suck up to business buddies, and that includes Bush, then take care of the country and the legal residents and citizens.

No amnesty, deport them all, secure the borders. And, oh, yeah, vote third party in Nov if they don't fix this situation by then.

De acuerdo. The problem now is strictly 'damage control.' We can slow down "Hispanification." It is too late to stop it.

Program elements: Strict border control, SOME deportation, some attrition of those who will return home and then not be able to get back in, an absolute end to government services for illegal aliens, and an end to birthright citizenship.

Do you think that giving the ones that are here amnesty will just encourage more to come? Look at the fiasco that happened the last time amnesty was given.

And I think the response you might get from some Freepers is based on some others that have shown up here wanting open borders - even if they're disguised as something else. They eventually start name-calling and using insults when they run out of anything to say.
