*shrug* I don't like drunk drivers. Too much personal experience at accident scenes.

I don't like them either. I don't and have never driven drunk. I have fored people to stay at my house when they have drank too muych to drive home. As I mentioned, no sane person likes drunk drivers. I'm only asking what that statement has to do with the article in question.

By your pit-bull defense of drunk driver defenders, I would be inclined to suspect your experience is confined to being defended from drunk driving charges.

Nope. Never even accused. But again, thanks for the ad hominem.

Is it so hard to see that defense attorneys are a neccesary part of our justice system? Is it a "pit-bull defense" (LOL) to point that out?

I suppose it's the difference between seeing bloody victims, and facing jail time...

So I guess you're just going to bring up feelings here? I still don't understand. I asked a simple question which you refused and are still refusing to answer. Why is that?

Nope. But I did answer that.

Ok, then, I'm sorry, I missed your answer. Why do you think it's relevent to this ariticle to point out the fact that drunk drivers are scum? Please either answer me again or point me to the post in which I missed it.

To me it feeeeels like you are trying to get me to apologize for not liking, nay, adoring, drunk drivers. Satan will be ice skating to work well before I have anything much higher than contempt for them.

I have agreed with you on this. Every single post. Do you think I'm just lying? Hatred of drunk drivers has nothing to do with my question - as I mentioned many times already, all sane people hate drunk drivers.

"There are far toooo many drivers out there who have pled down on this charge for years..."

A lot of states have laws that prohibit reducing the charges on a DWI. If someone is arrested, he will either have to plead guilty or go to trial. He cannot plead to lesser charges like reckless driving. We have those laws in our state along with mandatory jail time and laws that prohibit judges from expunging DWI conviction records. People don't get anywhere close to the number of arrests here for DWI you are talking about without having spent a good bit of time in county jails and in state prisons. I've handled probably hundreds of DWI cases over the years and I've never seen a case where anyone had that many prior offenses, certainly nowhere close to twenty or thirty priors. Maybe you should lobby for mandatory jail time and laws that prohibit reducing DWI charges in your state.

In all walks of life, there are good and there are bad.

Far too many people are inclined to paint those in professions such as lawyers and Police officers with a wide brush. This is unfortunate as it is not reality. I feel for this guys family, even though I may have never been able to like him in person. Of course, I might had respected and liked him...I will never know.

I spent 26 years of my life as a very dedicated and honorable Cop. I maintained my integrity and professionalism for my entire career. I left as a highly decorated Detective Sergeant. Of course, I made my real money as a businessman and in investments.

I investigated cases that have resulted in putting hundreds in prison, including 2 cases where the defendants were to the death house.

Included in my arrests........ ER Doctor (murder), Baptist Preacher(murder), Cops ( pedophilia, theft), Businessmen of many sorts (Corruption, major drug dealing, bombing).

As for the "pit-bull lawyers", please believe me, if you ever need a lawyer, you're are going to want yours to be a pit-bull. If you are ever a victim of a major crime, you will also want to have a very competent (pit-bull) cop on your side.

Now, I despise drunk drivers too. I have seen the brains and other body parts left from their foolish deeds. I have had to be the one to show up in person to tell family members that their loved ones would never be coming home and that they wont be able to have an open casket funeral.

I have looked the children of the victims in the eyes, through my own tears......but for me, I was able to walk away, they had to live with their horrible loss.

All that being said........we are all considered innocent until proven guilty and the better the lawyer, the better your rights are going to be protected.

So, for the lawyer.....may he RIP.

I did not bring up drunk drivers being despicable.

In other words, I was not the one who initially said drunk drivers are despicable.

Let me clarify that, I was not the first person on this thread to observe that drunk drivers are despicable.

To put it more plainly, I didn't start calling drunk drivers despicable, I merely agreed with another poster that they are despicable.

Agreeing with someone that drunk drivers are despicable I would do on any thread.

Why do you think it needs to be relevant to this particular thread?

I certainly never said my disgust for drunk drivers had any special significance with respect to this particular thread. You seem to think it must, that I have some hidden evil motive for agreeing with someone who thinks drunk drivers are despicable.

I did say that I have had personal unpleasant experiences caused by drunk drivers. Am I supposed to forget that when I post on any random FR thread to protect your tender sensibilities?

If you can't figure out my stance from this post, don't bother asking for further clarification. You won't get it.

Get it?

You're right. I made the mistake of thinking that since you were posting on this particular thread, you would be posting something relevent to the thread. My bad. If you didn't intend your remarks to be relevent to the thread you were posting on, it was indeed ridiculous of me to ask you to clarify them.

To put it more plainly, I didn't start calling drunk drivers despicable, I merely agreed with another poster that they are despicable.

You either seem to forget or not want to acknowledge that I agreed with you on this point. Besides, who cares who brough it up first? I was asking you a question about your post being relevent to this thread. If it isn't, then my question has been answered. Why get so hostile towards me?

I did say that I have had personal unpleasant experiences caused by drunk drivers. Am I supposed to forget that when I post on any random FR thread to protect your tender sensibilities?

My tender sensibilities? I'm not the one who resorted to ad hominem attacks when asked a simple question. I merely asked you a simple question related to the thread. You may have had unpleasant experiences caused by drunk drivers, but I'm sure most of us have. Yours may be worse than ours. I'm lucky enough to have escaped injury to myself or close family from drunk drivers, but a close friend of mine lost both his father and his grandfather to drunk drivers in separate accidents. I have a friend who had to quit his job and file for disability after being involved in an accident with a drunk driver. I didn't think any of this mattered since as I have mentioned many times before, everyone with a working brain knows that driving drunk is wrong and despicable.

But hey, if you want to take personal offense and post irrelvencies to a thread, live it up! All you had to say the first time was that the remark wasn't relevent to the thread and that would have answered my question. Sorry to get you so worked up - go home, have a drink or two, and enjoy your Friday...

I've heard of lawyers going to extremes to get a mistrial but this takes the cake.

You should be blaming the juries not the lawyers for most of the nonsensical outcomes.

Geez, I wonder if that politician posing as a LAWYER in the "Duke RAPE case" missed that day in class at law school, do you think??????

If the Duke case doesn't stress the importance of defense attorneys, nothing does.

Why do you believe the drunk driving specialists are bottom of the barrel, attorneywise?

Where we live (Southern Cali), it's the drunk driving lawyers that do the most sleazy advertising (other than the personal injury scheisters, of course)...they definitely give the appearance of the lowest of the low.

I had a girlfriend who's father dropped dead one day at the dentist's office while he was performing routine work on a patient. It was very sad, and had a profound effect on me, as I deeply regretted his loss more than I was able to express. He was a great Jewish guy from Chicago who married a lovely Italian Catholic. They had their differences and she appeared to enjoy fighting with him. he had an opportunity to provide a better life for her family by making a new practice in St Louis (I live there for 4 years myself as a child.) The mother was "Chicago all the way" and refused to move, making it difficult to sell the home and stretching out the process necessitating a mortgage for two homes while she stayed up North "marketing" the home. I believe the stress simply got to him and that was it.

For what I saw of him, he was a wonderful, caring and loving father who gave his life to provide the best for his family. He directly influenced me on my personal performance in college and had an impact in my life. I mourn his loss some 25 years later, may God rest his soul. That being said, I would be happy to have someone think of me what I think of this man, who I only knew for a short while, but forever impacting my thinking on fatherhood. God Bless you, Donald.

Sadly, their daughter inherited the mother's disposition for an abusive, angry temper. She loved to fight, and while extremely intelligent she seemed dysfunctional in resolving what should have been minor issues in the relationship. For example, she had a tantrum and actually broke some of my possessions for me owning a Madonna album ("Like A Virgin", I mean, come one, it wasn't THAT BAD...). She started off "So is THAT what you WANT?!?"...*crash* *smash* WTF?!?

But the father was a great man.

At any rate the greatest benefit outside of that relationship was to learn what the signs were for any woman who might possess such a temperament. Thank God I learned that in time to recognize what an angel my wife is. : )

In conclusion, this article is very sad. It reminds me of how sudden the loss of loved ones can occur. I pray for the comfort of the family. May God see them through this dark time.

Interesting. Over here, it seems to be the bankruptcy lawyers that do the bulk of the TV lawyer advertising, with the occasional recruiting for class-action suits. I definitely agree with you that any lawyer who advertises on TV, particularly with those sleazy advertisements, are indeed bottom of the barrel...
