WASHINGTON - In a rare occurrence, the CIA fired an officer who acknowledged giving classified information to a reporter, NBC News learned Friday.
The officer flunked a polygraph exam before being fired on Thursday and is now under investigation by the Justice Department, NBC has learned.
Intelligence sources tell NBC News the accused officer, Mary McCarthy, worked in the CIA's inspector general's office and had worked for the National Security Council under the Clinton and and George W. Bush administrations.
The leak pertained to stories on the CIA’s rumored secret prisons in Eastern Europe, sources told NBC. The information was allegedly provided to Dana Priest of the Washington Post, who wrote about CIA prisons in November and was awarded a Pulitzer Prize on Monday for her reporting.
Sources said the CIA believes McCarthy had more than a dozen unauthorized contacts with Priest. Information about subjects other than the prisons may have been leaked as well.
The sources spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the firing.

I picked up the date from an article that mentioned both of them.

This whole case has nothing to do with Wilson. Again this is a red herring.

Prior to joining CSIS in August 2001, Mary O. McCarthy was a senior policy adviser to the CIA's deputy director for science and technology. Until July 2001, she served as special assistant to the president and senior director for intelligence programs on the National Security Council (NSC) Staff, under both Presidents Clinton and Bush. From 1991 until her appointment to the NSC, McCarthy served on the National Intelligence Council.
She began her government service as an analyst, then manager, in CIA's Directorate of Intelligence, holding positions in both African and Latin American analysis. From 1979 to 1984 she was employed by BERI, S.A., conducting financial, operational, and political risk assessments for multinational companies and banks. Previously she had taught at the University of Minnesota and was director of the Social Science Data Archive at Yale University. McCarthy has a B.A. and M.A. in history from Michigan State University, an M.A. in library science from the University of Minnesota, and a Ph.D. in history from the University of Minnesota. She is the author of Social Change and the Growth of British Power in the Gold Coast (University Press of America, 1983).
After the firing comes the prosecution, then the imprisonment or other penalty.
My prediction is that she will talk.
I know, I know. Let's give it a little time (undeserved as it may be)- FOX did say it's all been handed over to DOJ for criminal investigation.
I just decided 9/11 was Mary's fault... After all the MSM will find a way to make it the President's fault that Mary is a frickin' traitor.

I disagree with your assumption (and yes, I know you will respect me in the morning). We have no idea if this ends up linking with the plamegame or not. If she is IG, was she responsible for referring plamegame to DOJ? Its a fair question, and not a stretch. (But, I'm hoping there is a link...there are other connections between her and Wilson if you read her resume and past history).

I wonder if she outed another CIA front by contributing under the (partial) affiliation "CENTER FOR STRATEGIC & INTERNATIONA" similar to how Plame outed Brewster Jennings with her contributions.
