The student probably didn't have a choice of professors to choose from. With all the down sizing at colleges, often only one professor is available to teach a specific course, and you are required to take it.
I had the same problem last year, a crazed 1960's hippie type; had her for two classes. Once you start getting into the upper division courses, you get some really strange people who only know their particular subject, they're obsessed!
