Personally, I like Cheney/Rice for 2008 I know, I know...Cheney says he's not running...
Me too. The only way i can see Condi replacing Cheney is if his health were to deteriorate any further. I'm a big fan of Dr. Rice
and Vice President Cheney.

Gee, where is it in the Constitution that the President of the United States can force the Vice-President to resign his Office? Last I checked they were both elected individually and took an oath to perform their duties until the end of their terms...
Beltway fantasy aside - Cheney would be a fool to set such a precedent for the future...

Dick Cheney was elected. Bush can't dump him.
Stupid Brits.

Rice as VP for Bush's third term? SECOND term. Don't you listen?
He was SELECTED not ELECTED for the first four years!
Sarcasm off, just in case.

I like Cheney where he is now, and Bush can't make him resign, as you point out.
If any change were to be made, I would have Cheney and Rumsfeld change places, so that Rumsfeld would be well-placed to run for President in 2008, but that would require two confirmations, and I'm not sure they would get through. I'd rather have Rumsfeld than Rice as the Republican nominee in 2008.

OUTSTANDING SUGGESTION!!!
Nicholas Burns can replace Dr. Rice very capably - in fact he's been out there quite a lot this week.
In preparation, perhaps?

True or they pretend they do not.
The VP has stated he will see his term out and IMHO he will
To compile with "my" rules on Cheney threads here are a couple of pics.

Napping my foot he was looking at notes
He is a man that likes to be well prepared and always has reams of notes with him, notice whenever in a meeting he has more notes than anyone even the President.
He often attends joint meetings with the President but often not reported as the official photo ops only show the President he has already slipped out before the press enter.
I suspect he was either due to go back into another meeting or was reading up on notes whilst fresh in his mind whilst the press nonsense was going on. Much more useful that paying attention to that.

Just think of the confirmation hearings not even worth considering for that reason alone plus also why replace as has been said many times the best VP in history if viewed as that position as stand alone and not a stepping stone to anything else.

The English seem incapable of understanding the American constitutional system. The last Veep to resign was John C. Calhoun and that was because Jackson had a personal beef with him.

Now Ruthie, with her head down on the railing, snoozing away while the SCOTUS was in session - THAT's napping.
But that got skipped over pretty fast...

No we are not and enough Americans have said similar to get me to ask the same question that many Americans seem incapable of understanding their own constitutional system.

Stupid American press is an oxymoron. I'd have thought the British press would have had more sense.
But then again, they're journalists.
