I have to admire his bravado and willingness to put his life on the line.

A return to a time when Royals were not above the fray. Good to see your still poking around here.

I doubt that there is any false bravado in this. Just a desire to accept the same dangers as his peers, and not want to be protected just because of who his father is.

Prince Harry has threatened to quit the Army if commanders refuse to send him to the front line. The mobility of the Blues and Royals light Scimitar reconnaissance vehicles will be a great value in Afghanistan and senior commanders say the Cavalry unit could be sent to Helmand province to support Paras in what is regarded as one of the most dangerous parts of the world.
Harry would command a troop of 11 men who would drive into the front line in their Scimitars.

I do too. The other way the army could accomodate this is to not let it be known that he is at the front lines. They will only be specifically targeting him, if they know his troop is there.

Salute and thanksgiving for Harry.

As a soldier, nothing is more inspiring than seeing this in one of the officers you know is getting groomed for the "big time".
Looks like he realizes that troops will not want to follow him if he doesn't do his time in the trenches. He's building credibility for himself with his peers and subordinates.
Good show! As the Brits say.

I would have been willing to swear that they stopped awarding the George Cross. I recall reading that some where and wondering why?
The solution to should he stay or should he go is simple: Ask his fellows in the quietest of ways whether or not his presence is a danger that they fear.

I have to admire his bravado and willingness to put his life on the line.As do I. However, at the same time, you have to realize that the terrorists will mark his unit as one to hit especially hard, with him in it. Imagine the media coup, should they kill an heir to the throne, or G-d forbid, capture him! This is a situation that could turn into a nightmare for the British military, and they're in a no-win situation.

Good for Harry! Many Englishmen were born to be great leaders and outstanding military men in the history of that "sceptre'd isle", even though they were of royal blood.
It could be that Harry's destined to be a man's man and a courageous one at that. Time will tell. Give him his chance if it's possible in any way for him to show his mettle without endangering others.
England has an heir and a spare. Let the spare prove himself without belittling.

Now about that quiting business your service is sure different from mine, because in mine you only quit when your service obligation time was up with a few unpleasant exceptions.
Yes, sometimes for real eight-ball officers they'd sometimes be encouraged to resign for the good of the service or for severe family crisis with a gravely sick spouse or child they might counsel someone to as part of a family hardship separation resign, but to just up and quit because you didn't get the assignment you put on your Dream-Sheet; not that I recall in my service.

Wait -- I hadn't even heard this. One of the royals (A) is IN the military, and (B) WANTS to serve his country and the world by actually fighting and risking himself?
Did one of that disastrous lot turn out well, in spite of everything?
Cool.
