I have to admire his bravado and willingness to put his life on the line.

The military is the one place where Prince Harry could be treated like everyone else, and they're taking that away from him too. Shame.

I have to admire his bravado and willingness to put his life on the line.I agree 100%. He sounds quite sincere. Way to go Prince Harry!
I imagine he just wants to be a good man and do his duty, but he's also setting a great example. I think that's one of the beneficial features of the monarchy in the modern world.

Outstanding young man. He could simply live the ultimate life of luxury with no pressure whatsoever. He chooses the front lines over a life of debauchery. Presented with the same choice, I wonder how many would make the same choice.

Ivan,
If you've time,
Can you briefly explain Clarence House and the other big, not noted on maps buildings along side Cavalry Walk (right name?).
I just got back from two weeks on your side of the Atlantic, saw too little, paid too much, enjoyed the pubs;
but have no idea of the roles those houses/agencies (?) play.

I've always like Harry.
And war certainly changes your perspectives and priorities.
War really is hell, just like I'd heard all my life.
But it's necessary sometimes.

I hope it's not a false bravado. If he has the competence and will, I say "good on him".

Good for Harry. He isn't content with being a "figurehead" and wants to get down in the trenches. More power to him.
To: MadIvan
Ivan, I would think that if he was in uniform just like the others, enemies wouldn't necessarily know who he is!
I mean, the guy is not going to wear his crown on the battlefield.
Kudos to the Prince for rejecting special treatment. An honorable position to take.

Do you think he's likely to go career? It would be interesting to see a General in line for the throne.

I love that line "considered by many to be illegal". So what's a legal war? Serbia? Chechnya?? Whatever African country France wants to send troops to this month???

You go Harry! I wonder if his brother William would do anything like this? If he has I wouldn't know since I don't have a royal family.

How would Prince Harry be singled out as a trophy catch unless he is wearing a big sign on his back, Hi there, I'm Prince Harry?
Sounds as tho Prince Harry finally has his head on straight after some pretty juvenile behavior. I'll bet his grandmother is proud of him for standing his ground, as are many Brits! Go Harry!

Good on him!
He's brave, and he's fighting the stereotype that the ruling class let the working class die in battle.

Hmmm.. Harry wants to be slapped like a red-headed step-child..
Interesting..
