When Tony's name was mentioned last week, I didn't believe it. I couldn't see him leave Fox and a radio show he was building for a two year temp job. But it would be great if he took the job.

I think Tony would rival Ari Fleischer, one of the few other that handled this position well.

My impression is that Mr. Tony Snow has 'paid dues' in journalism to the tune of great credability. I think he would bring a breath of fresh air to the white house press briefings and would indeed overshadow the very fine footprint left on that position by Ari.

I think that his reputation for no nonsense journalism that is defined by facts rather than emotion and speculation would leave the white house press corps with serious reservations about continuing the antics they have gotten away with during Scott's time in that position.

Mr.Tony Snow would take a large cut in the paycheck department and his own reservations about what comes after a political position is one worth heavy consideration. Family life is also a heavily weighted character to factor in. Health is an obvious factor for him to consider as well.

Providing that this position is, indeed, offered to Mr. Tony Snow, I would offer that the largest factor to be considered is wether or not he feels that he can best serve his nation from the private sector or from the political/government sector of society.

It is my opinion that Mr. Tony Snow has earned the respect and admiration of many people around this nation for his uncommon desire to pose facts for what they are and ask questions about open topics rather than speculate upon the possible answers by injecting partison politics in the place of those allusive facts.

I will not tell Mr. Tony Snow what to do and neither should anyone else here on this forum or anywhere else. This choice is his to make. Maybe it is time we all sit back and wait to see what that choice is, rather than attempting to steer his decision??

That is an awesome idea, and have each reporter stand up while the 'roll call of dishonor' is read

What a pompous, self-important ass.

Yeah, but he's got a hairdo to die for....(sarc); looks like a Foster Freeze Double Whip Frapee...

You make an excellent point, and talk show host/journalists depend on people trusting they're independent thinkers; which could make returning to Fox after this stint difficult. No matter how strong his fan base is among us here, they need a far larger audience.

Selfishly, I really like him and hate to see him thrown into the Lions' den.

"..Sadly, Bush has been too passive in his own defense over his years in office. If he had been much tougher with his twisted critics of the left, I think he would have much more respect in the MSM, but he chose the "turn the other cheek" mode, which has cost him dearly..."

True, The President has not defended himself against constant MSM lies and half-truths. He also has used press secretaries who have not had the skills to play with the sharks and use their position to correct the lies.

But nothing will make me believe that gaining respect with the MSM is something to be desired. I would be very very concerned if Helen Thomas proclaimed respect for the President.

What is sad is that the truth even needs to be defended. The truth is just that, true.

There was a time when reporters just reported the facts as they occurred. And did some digging to verify those facts. Now they just report what they're fed, and run with it whether it's true or not. The offended party must then prove a non truth. How do you defend yourself against a lie? I've been in the position and it really is not possible to erase an untruth or its effects completely.

Yes, and the implications of this are ugly. The anti-American political movement is rife in the MSM and it does not bode well for America. As you point out, the MSM has become a POLITICAL VEHICLE and is no longer a respectable profession dedicated to the pursuit of the TRUTH.

It's tough to be charming and confrontational at the same time

I would suggest firm and steadfast rather than confrontational, and I think Tony Snow fits that bill. However, I am inclined to think that his family might prefer he not take the job. To them I say- his country needs him!

Well it may be a crappy job..I'm with you there. But you can't expect to be "Thanked" for any job. You have to want to do it for yourself.

Don't nitpick. "Thankless" is an expression. It is a shitty job, to be sure, and imo beneath the dignity of Tony Snow, whom I greatly admire.

While I'm glad Tony is doing well enough to take the job, and while I certainly think the President could do worse, I'd still rather see Ann Coulter in that gig.

I understand your concern...I wouldn't want my son or daughter to go through the unavoidable pain that job has to offer.

I remember when Tony left Sunday tv for his radio program and I did not understand why he would do that. Then I started listening to him and I realized how much more effective he could be in that venue.

President's poll numbers are the result his stances on several issues that the conservative base is really upset about, namely illegal immigration.

The "base" or what you think is the base, is irrelevant.

By the end of 2008, there will be a new base, and the old base can sit and spin.

I'm not asking for it, but it will happen just the same.

The base is broken and no politician will be able to put it back together. At least none that have a rats chance of wining in 08. Besides, Bush is not running again, so his base is no longer needed.

If you watch the early positioning done by the potential '08 candidates, they are moving to the center. They will make some meager attempts at drawing some from the right wing to their campaigns, but the numbers say the disaffected Dem's and independents are where the win is.

And so will go the so called base....They only have a maximum eight year lifespan anyway.(politics 102)
