I thought "no one is saying deport all illegals"?

'm talking about the 18? million "OTHER" illegal aliens (aside from the lettuce pickers). They're the ones taking jobs from the American middle class, and they shouldn't even be here.

Bump!

Egads. That you think a CNN poll is credible.

Americans won't do the same jobs for the same pay - is that better?

I thought just the third world surfs are brought in to be "slaves" and then your grandchildren don't have to do those jobs for that pay - no one is proposing that mdbob's grandchildren be captured, subdued, and made into slaves themselves.

That doesn't make sense - if we keep bringing in more and more illegals who will work cheaper than your grandchildren, then how is it even possible to "structure the system" whereby they can be hired cheaper than the illegal?!

A guest worker programme is a nonsense. Let's discuss the results of such a policy - it creates a more or less permanent underclass in the country which never assimilates, nor has any incentive to do so.

Do you really want that?

What Bush needs to do is change the terms of the debate: he needs to talk about border security. Use terrorism as a justification to build a truly effective barrier.

Quietly, at the same time, start enforcing the existing laws to remove the illegals. It will take time, but a quiet policy of law enforcement should do the trick.

He shows no signs of doing this, however.

Regards, Ivan

I'm 37 - you? I don't need an example, because you've already admitted the illegals will take jobs for LESS than Americans, so even if we somehow get to the point that Americans take jobs at $1 per hour, then illegals will undercut even that, right?

Also, you really think we are going to "outsource" all lawyer jobs anytime soon - mthom above didn't.

We could and maybe even should outsource lawyerin' but that wont happen. Tech jobs? absolutely. Most politicians arent tech nerds. I do hope lawyers get the full outsourcing experience someday though.

That was 37, huh? with the shift key still down because of the question mark. I rest my case.
